5 series coupe.
Why no 5 series coupe? That would be kind of cool, no? A coupe between a 3 series and 6 series. I don't know, just a random thought.

A 5 series coupe is essentially a 6 series.

+1. 5er cars are marketed towards the middle aged crowd, most of whom have kids. They're not likely to buy coupes. The 6er mainly competes with the Benz SL, which has slightly "older" customers. And the 3er coupe is for the younger customers. Just doesn't make any business sense to have a 5er coupe.

Though it looks NOTHING like one, and I dont know where the hell people get the notion that the 6 series is like a coupe of the 5 series, but yea........the 6 series is a coupe version of the 5 series
IMO, the 6 series is....just that. THE 6 series, and thats all it is....it's its own model. And to me, it doesn't look like, seem like, or need to be based off of or similar to the "coupe version" of anything else but itself. If you want a coupe then you buy one, and if you want a sedan, you buy one. You want a 5,6, or 7?......then you buy one. I understand that you fellas are talking about the status level and size of the cars in relation to what they compare with. Like for example, since the 6 series is so big, lux, and expensive....it's similar to buying a coupe version of a 7 series. So for someone who doesn't want the size of a 7 series, nor a sedan, but still wants the upper level BMW status and luxury they buy a 6 series?

You mean, it compares to the CL. And I guess the folks at Audi must be silly for marketing an A4 and A5 then, huh

Because the 6's "underbody" if you will, is based on the 5. That's my understanding, anyway.

If I remeber correctly, there was talk of making the E92 coupe a 4-series, but that was quickly shot down. The idea was that the even numbered cars were the coupe versions of the odd-numbered sedan:
3-series = 4 door e90 4-series = 2 door e92 5-series = 4 door e60 6-series = 2 door e63 7-series = 4 door 8-series = 2 door (although it's not around anymore) ...and, yes the 6-series is 2-door 5-series... and not a 7-series.

IMO the 5 series is going to be phased out in the next 10-15 years due to the growing weight and price of the 3 series. The 3 series will only get bigger, heavier, and more expensive, until the point where buying the 5 series is not that much different than buying a 3 series (we're already at that point IMO). The 1 series in future generations (read: less ugly) will be the new volume seller for BMW.

+1.. I don't think there is a demand or need for a 5 series coupe let alone the actual 5 series sedan.
