X7 speed limiter in USA

Does anyone knows what is the official limiter for X7 M50i? I thought that the lower models are limited to 130Mph and the M50i is limited to 155mph if on summer tires, However I see mine is limited to 130Mph, can anyone confirm this? I got one of the first M50i and wondering if perhaps this is wrongly set to 130?

Any ideas?

130 mph when equipped with all-season tires and 155 mph when equipped with summer performance tires.

On the 2021 Models, only option 1XR the 22" Y-spoke bi-color orbit grey wheels, style 758i with performance RF tires adds option 840 to the M50i. Any other wheel or tire combo is limited to 130 mph.

On the 2020 Models, the order guide makes no mention of any vehicle configurations getting option 840.

Can a code change the top speed limit?

No, you'd need a full flash to change it.

So does anybody know for sure? I just took delivery of a 2020 M50i with 758i wheels and performance tires? According to the chart I would be limited to 155. But if the 2020 doesn't have the added 840 option...
I guess I will have to hit the turnpike and find out today ))

Use a VIN decoder and see if option 840 is listed.

Whoa why is your X7 and M50i lettering below the rear lights instead of above? Is this a new change for 2021?

So this is the issue, I have the summer performance tires on and 22" cerium gray wheels technically all checks for 155 but I know the car is not following this path and 130 is the limit. I have tires properly set in the system, so can anyone with proper options let me know it the theoretical 155 is indeed programmed ?

Option 840 is the Increased top speed limiter. It'll show up as S840 High speed synchronization on the bimmercat decoder: https://bimmercat.com/bmw/EN/vin/decoder/online

If that option doesn't show up for your vin, you do not have the 155 mph speed limit.

I did but it rings same message, I got the build from dealer and is not showing this option as part of it, so now I am trying to make them turn it on, let's see how it goes. Clearly if BMW is advertising this this should be done by default then as long as you buy M50i and summer performance tires

An update

So I have two tracks going
1. Got call from BMW executive office about the speed limiter with most nonsense answer, I was informed that the PM for X7 said that None of the M50i in USA have 155mph, wow is there anyone who can test if this is true? Clearly they market that you have 155 as long as you have the M50i and summer performance tires

2. At dealer I am now at manager level, technical team as expected had no idea what to do, so Manager will speak with BMW rep who comes once a week or so

Clearly on the 2021 build sheet, if you get the summer performance, you get increased top speed limit to 155 per THEIR specs.

I bet that's an interesting conversation with the manager. He is probably thinking he has better things to worry about than a 155 speed limiter. Lol

On my 40i with the 22" performance tires its governed to 130mph. (132 indicated) Been there several times and its super smooth, wish it had the 155 limiter too. (Of course it was on a closed course, in Mexico, full fire suit, with ambulances and helicopter on standby)

So update

The manager called me and said as follow:

Looks like BMW have advertised the speed limit to 155Mph however this was not implemented and ALL M50i still have 130Mph and apparently the 2021 will have it set to 155 if it has 22" and performance summers.

Ok now it is interesting, does it mean that BMW sold me something and not delivered? I will be drilling more I keep you all posted

So looks like non of the 2020 have the 155mph all are set to 130 despite BMW marketing materials

That's unfortunate. My last X5 50i would get to 130 really quickly and I imagine the X7's with more power is even quicker.

Be glad you don't own a newer Volvo. Top speed is capped at 112.
