Exclamation Drop-In Filters 50i & M50i...

Is there is a Tuner or vendor who has a drop-in high flow air filter for 50i or M50i intake?

I believe they are 2 different design.

Most likely the 50i is the same as M550iX.
I believe BMC or K&N already have it.

M50i is specific to X5/X6/X7 M50i.
Nothing available yet.

I would recommend you wait until you have verified fitment for the X7 50i/M50i from any of the air filter manufacturers. While the same engine is used in many different BMW models, due to the different layouts of the engine compartment for different BMW models, many times the air intake boxes can be different shapes and sizes (with different shape filter elements). That said, if you could get confirmation that the filter element is the same for the N63 engine in a different car, you would probably be safe to get it for the X7.

Edit: You might be in luck. It looks like the N63 in the X7 50i shares the same size filter elements as the G30 5-series, G11/12 7-series, and G05 X5 so that should help your search.

That is my concern as well. Same motor does not mean same housing. We saw the differences in the past with other BMW and Audi models. Same motor, different intake or plumbing etc.

I've come up with K&N: 33-5086 but not sure if it'll be a match. They do not have any data or information.

Well, outside of waiting for an official release for the X7 50i/M50i, I think using the cross reference filter element info from other BMW models will be your best bet since all that really matters is that the new drop in filter will physically fit inside the factory air box. That said, I would not personally use a K&N filter - not a fan of them. FWIW, I have a set of AFE Pro 5R drop in filters in my M3 (BMC is also popular on the M3/M4 forums).

It looks like BMC has an option for the X7 50i.....

I remove all the grease from the filter then reapply oil to the media before installation unless it is a dry-flow. I purchased a Dinan CF intake for my '18 F85 and they were so heavily oiled that there were grease stains on the box they came in.

If you want to get even more air flow into the engine, you can get rid of the charcoal air filters that are installed in the covers of each of the air boxes (if the N63 air box covers have them, which I would be surprised if they did not).

E70 X5M had them but the F85 did not. Not sure if this car has them but definitely will remove them if they're in there.

I have a parts catalog subscription where it is always updated.
That's how I can do research on the parts interchangeability.

M50i on G05/G06/G07 uses the same air filter, but doesn't cross reference to any other BMW.
So, it is a specific air filter.

Installed. The two T25 screws in the box of the motor by the firewall are a massive pain to unscrew and screw in. Outside of that it was a smooth and simple swap. After about a hundred miles or so there is a only a minimal increase in engine sound (the main reason I wanted to install was to improve the muffled engine note) and negligible increase in MPG on highway w/ cruise control. All in all, if you're doing this as a standalone "mod" I would say skip it. If it is going to be part of a series of upgrades or "mods" then by all means throw it in.

Out of curiosity, were there charcoal filters in the filter housings and did you remove them?

Completed approximately six hundred mile road trip. 85% of the trip was highway with Shell93 in the tank at all times. Averaged 23.x MPG in Sport mode with cruise control. In total mixed driving with idling at rest stop etc averaged 19.x after filters. This is the only difference I have experienced after the install. I cannot tell if there is a bit more snap in throttle on at highway speeds or if it is my wallet telling my brain there was improvement there. Windows down there is slight more engine note on WOT but outside of that the increase in sound is negligible.

There weren't any. Opened up, removed lid, removed paper filters, inspected, no charcoal filters on this one.
