Cargo cover storage for the smaller cover?

Is there a place in the vehicle to store the smaller cargo cover like there is for the larger one?

Sadly I don't think there is. I keep mine in my foyer closet at home when I don't need it, but I typically have it in all the time. I think I put down the rear seats twice without prior planning, once my load was small enough to leave it in place, the second time I just placed it along side what I was hauling.

I'm just happy we have something for the larger one now. In my X5 with a third row, this was in my basement from delivery to lease-end inspection.

90% of my driving is w/o 3rd row passengers. It's just nice to have when there are unplanned passengers and extra cargo that requires you to remove the cover.

Yes, there's a spot for it down below the cargo area where the larger cover is stored. It's a little further towards the back of the car from where the larger cover is stored. I can try to post a picture tomorrow if you aren't able to figure it out.

That would be great! I wasn't able to locate it the last time I looked. I currently have the larger one attached so I can store the smaller one. I would prefer to have them both stored until I need them.

Here are some pictures of where it goes. It fits nicely and the plastic side supports are molded to fit it. You have to take the two side covers off to get it in/out.

Thanks for posting this. However, you can't store both the "behind the second row" cargo cover AND the "behind the 3rd row" cargo cover at the same time. It's either one or the other.

I think many of us were looking for a place to store them both at the same time. But apparently that's not possible on the current model X7.

The windows are so nicely tinted in the rear that no one can see inside the compartment anyway. The shades are put there because it is the law but I don’t know anyone who actually uses them. They’re the first thing I take out of the car and throw in the garage, the last thing I bring back into the car when the lease is up.

I'm not leasing. I bought my vehicle and plan on keeping it for 7 years or so. We do lots of road trips and having the cover prevents people from shinning a flash light in the rear window to see if anything is in there. I suppose I could just store the 3rd row cover in the house probably since we would never use it anyway.

Gotcha, each use case is different of course.

Something else that comes into play from a standpoint of overnight road trips and cargo storage.....we completely emptied out the compartment under the rear deck and took out both shades and there is a ton of space under that deck cover.

Not sure if you’ve done the same but there is a lot of room to hide valuables in there away from prying eyes. Can get a decent sized duffle bag or shopping bags in there and close the lid. With the shades out of there we were shocked as to how much space is available under there.

I've always used the covers to help reduce road noise more than anything else. Even in the X7, I'm sure the 3rd row cover makes a noticeable difference for at least the 3rd row passengers.

Thanks - that helped!

I was already about to take it inside and store it somewhere else...

Yes indeed. There is a ton of space where the spare tire goes. However, I have my spare in that compartment. I'm old school and I've had plenty of flat tires in my 62 years. Therefore, I refuse to travel without a spare tire. I make lots of road trips in Montana and Wyoming. Many places far, far from a repair shop or tire dealer. Relying on someone to come out and repair/replace my flat tire or give me a tow isn't a viable option in some of those circumstances.

We never use the 3rd row so I think I'm just going to stow that cover in the house and stow the 2nd row cover in trunk.
