NTB Broke Tie Rod during Alignment....

My car is now stuck on their lift. They have ordered the part which will arrive tomorrow. They are charging me for labour, and parts. Does this sound right? Thought it was: U break it, U pay. What would you guys do?

Threaten legal action if they still give you trouble. I hope you didn't sign anything.

I can't see how this could be on you. They messed up. I've never used NTB but this makes me very skeptical of their expertise.

let them fix it first, THEN raise hell. you dont want your car stuck on that lift forever. just dont sign anything before they finish fixing it.

do not sign anything, agree to whatever they say verbally

allow them to fix and align car

request that they drive car out of the garage for you

acquire keys

pay for alignment in cash

leave

I can't stand ntb. Basically I bought tires with a 60k warranty they lasted 20k with replacement warranty(would not pass inspection on all tires) I went back asked for prorated return denied ask for return on warranty bc it was only 15 months old denied. I asked for them to give me 20% off 4 new tires for loyalty nope. I tried three separate ntb all said no. Lost me and about 30 of my family and friends business for life. Let's think 200 dollars now or all my future tire purchases people don't understand how your suppose to run a business anymore.

Ok this reminds me of two situations.

This is a recent situation that I've experienced. I had my E92 CSL trunk painted by a local body shop. When to the shop to pick the car with the new trunk installed. The owner proceed to inform me they had an issue removing the trunk lock which they broke. Like your situation, they would order the part. When the part came in, they installed it. Pick up the car up for the final time, the owner gave me the freggin' $172 bill.

I was pissed off, I told him this is NOT my fault for breaking the lock. "Why should I pay for something that was working perfectly before handing the car over to him"? He eventually broke, and said "we are even". I NEVER went back to that shop and speak negatively about the shop whenever it is deemed.

I say, hold your ground and don't back down to what is right. They broke it, they should pay for it. To be fair, labor or the part might be split between the two of you.

This is the worst possible advice. Generally speaking, Non-written agreements are just as legal - just harder to prove.

Unless you arecwithholding facts there's no reason they can put this on you. Tell them they can do right by you now, or they can all see you bin small claims court for a few hours where you will tear them a new one and collect full amount, incidental costs of not having your car for a day. Their call.

agreed. dont verbally agree to charges, just say something like "just fix it and we can agree on the appropriate charges later". of course, when it comes time to pay, you'll argue that the "appropriate charges" are for the alignment only.

All my years as a tech and I've never heard of somebody being so incompetent that they broke a tie rod during an alignment. My shop has replaced tie rods in order to do an alignment because they were so frozen that even the torch wouldn't get them turning, but the customer was always informed of this prior to us proceeding with any work and as a result they paid or we didn't align the car. In this case NTB is at fault and the broken tie rod is surely on them. In a perfect world I'd have the car towed to a different service facility at NTB's expense and make them pay for the new tie rod and labor to have it replaced at a more reputable shop. Since the world is not perfect...NTB should replace the tie rod at their expense and give you 50% off the alignment for your inconvenience
