Carseat installation with seatbelt

Hello,

I’m confused on the car seat installation. Here’s the scenario:

- Rear Captains Chair
- Front Facing Carseat for my 5yr old
- She weighs above the latch installation method max weight (40lb)
- Seatbelt must be used to install seat
- One car seat is installed, the captains chair auto moves +|- 6” from operation of the 3rd row folding flat/open
-The seatbelt being “locked” from installing the carseat prevents the captains chair from moving & the 3rd row wont close/open

What am I missing? Surely theres a way to have a car seat installed with the seatbelt & still be able to operate the 3rd row folding functions.

While that is an option - they are not nearly as safe as 5-point harness.

Right now i’m pushing the limits of latch (my daughter is only 3lb beyond rated weight limit)

Is that true? I'm admittedly no expert but I read that the studies on this were not conclusive.

5-point harness is the safest.

I don't have captains chairs but I do have the same issues. If the second row seat is too far back then the seatbelt is locked and you can't move the seat anymore forward.

With my bench it won't move. Have to get into third row on the other side but when I have people in the third row I never have my child so it hasn't been an issue.

I think that's why people take out the arm rests in the middle so people can squeeze back through the middle area.

Based on what? Any conclusive studies done?

I removed my arm rests (very simple), but access isnt the issue. It’s the operation of 3rd row folding up/down.

Yes, like a thousand. In some countries, 4 year olds are requires to be rear facing still. My daughter will be in harness until she exceeds weight limit.

I haven't seen, nor have you cited, any studies finding that three point seatbelts, when used correctly, are less safe than a five point harness.

OP: Some of the issues you are having with seatbelts/child seats are the reason I had gone with the second row bench instead of the captains. Our other vehicle has captains and didn't have the problems that the X7 has with captains.

speaking of car seats .... has anyone been able to prevent indentations from forming on the seat backs of the 2nd row captain's chairs? I don't have a problem with the bottom of the base, but since the captain's chairs have snug side padding, the end of the base that touches the seat causes indentations.

Dude no offense, but take the safety of your kids a little more serious than educating yourself from a BMW forum stranger.

Call your pediatrician and have a chat....for the safety of your kids. Please.

Sure thing bud. Maybe you should work on your reading comprehension skills so you can pass those on to your kids. No offense, of course.

I pose a legitimate, though perhaps academic, question and you say I'm putting my kids' safety at risk. Led by a perfunctory, "no offense."

Here is a pertinent quote:

So despite the past research, we don’t have any firm evidence to tell us whether older kids (5+) are safer in boosters vs. forward-facing 5-point harnesses.

Triggered? Or just willfully ignorant?

You go ahead and take recommendations from the car seat blog, while I take mine from the AAP.

guys, you clearly pissed off this soccer mom. Let daaaannny girl do what she wants with her kids.

When I was 8, I drove in the front seat; and when I was 12, my dad let me drive around the neighborhood and empty roads and streets.

clearly this millennials want to be bubble wrapped. Let them bubble wrap.
meanwhile, I'll take my 3 year daughter hunting and fishing.

For the record, I keep my daughter in a forward booster seatbelts harness. She is nearly 4' and 44 lbs.

So when you put in your car seat with a seatbelt and lock it (as you are supposed to), how does your bench move when you try to lower and raise the third row?
