335d loss of power
hi guys havent been around for a few months but have a problem with the old girl
parked up after work weds night left her on drive no probs started her up for same drive back to work next morning and no power whatsoever. engine revs v slowly but nothing seems to happen -def no boost I'm guessing that its either a dpf or electrical fault it also doesnt hold gears well and has no kickdown it cleared itself yesterday on a drive and returned to normal but again today whilst driving at about 50mph it happened and has stayed there all day I managed to get home albeit a little slower but as my wife pointed out a smoother way home, but it is not fun trying to accelerate out of a roundabout to be undertaken by not only a smart car but an arctic too ! she would get up to speed but took ages (think 0-60 in 60 secs type of thing) i spoke to the garage on fri but they cant see her till beginning of august i have bmw assistance coming out in the morning as i dont think its safe to drive any ideas ?? forgot to mention work drive now 4 miles town stop start followed by 30 miles fast a27 also no warning lights what so ever 31000m and serviced 6k ago

have you not got the engine warning light? You should have!
I had a similar issue a few weeks ago....loss of power, gear changes were funny, and engine warning lights came on and off....for a few hours...spent the whole sunday test driving it....then monday morning car was fine!!! have you used a jet wash recently by any chance? in my case, i think water got into some "sensors" and all i had to do is to wait for it to"dry" up... |

after booking it in last night for assistance this morning on ringing to confirm five mins ago, they are refusung to come out as there are no engine warning lights and it will still get to speed albeit taking a very long time
so now have to wait for 3 weeks for the stealers to fit it in>>>>>

after reading another thread I have noticed my red hose is half black!!
The car will rev slowly to 3500 max I have a friend who sells jags who said to do a manual regeneration on the jags they recommend driving 50 -60 for 20-30 mins I did that and managed 15 mpg! but to no avail there is some torque at 2500 -3000rpm but thats it if I put the foot down I get less power lastly if I put it in manual it searches for gears all over the place changing up at 3000rpm? I think its in shutdown due to dpf I want it sorting prior to visiting Imran (at last) sorry for not buying in group buy but been away working for custommer's who turned out were not paying!

If it was DPF then you would get a warning light on as I did, but a knackered one does reduce power I can confirm.

It sounds similar to the problem I had with my 535d when I got it: The actuator on the front of the turbo manifold was jammed meaning that the small turbo wasn't spooling up at all at low revs. There was no engine warning light, but my dealer ran a diagnostic programme and confirmed the problem with the seized actuator.
I also had to take the car back when the throttle response was terrible - decelerating when you open the throttle and this turned out to be the DPF needing regeneration, which the dealer triggered manually and took it out for a drive. It was noticeable but nothing like as bad as the above problem with the actuator. |

It did gain speed after these revs but only as fast as a milk float!
I have been on holiday for a week and so left it at the dealers to look at. I spoke briefly to them on the phone whilst I was away and they mentioned a vacuum control valve which has been replaced under warranty. I am going to pick it up this morning so I will let you know thanks for your help.

Last night the same problem emerged on my car... For the 2nd time (now at 47.000 km's).
The first time I've changed the valve they said that it's positioned very close to the exhaust and it's probably the heat of the exhaust that damages it... That probably means that it's going to be happening again and again... But it makes me wonder why other 335d owners aren't having the same problem? |

got it back
feels ok not quite as I remembered it tho! to be honest the dealer was very good I left it with them on 22 july and went on holiday and they rang me to let me know what the problem was and that it was ready It was cleaned and vacuumed throughout and they also did the brake fluid change and air conditioning as asked I can't tell the difference with the air conditioning tho, it still feels lacking compared to any other car I've had £200 for the priviledge of brake fluid and ac cant be bad eh (NOT) at least I have a car ready to be chipped now! Imran are you free on Thurs(finally pm sent)

Brake fluid and a/c service for £200? For a main dealer, that's pretty good VFM.
They've still made good money out of the job - simply recycling your R134a gas - it's a pretty much an automatic job, all done by machine.

But do they do the brake fluid change properly? Or as I suspect in my case, they sucked it out of the reservoir and then topped it up with new brake fluid. They only used a litre, and I have been reliably informed that the brake system takes over 1.5 litres.

A litre would be enough to change the system fluid Will, esp if the resevoir is evacuated before the bleed procedure starts and filled with fresh clean fluid.
