The Integral Active Steering is the 4-wheel steering option. I.e. the rear wheels steer in the opposite direction of the fronts at low speeds to decrease the turning radius of the vehicle. At higher speeds, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the fronts to increase stability - at highway speeds the vehicle will feel more stable and seem to glide when doing lane changes. From a physics perspective, it is the equivalent of shortening or lengthening the wheelbase. From a snow/ice driving perspective, I don't see how it would offer any benefit.
Thanks for the reply re Night Vision and Integral Steering! I got Night Vision on my F15 and I appreciate the detection of animals/pedestrians that comes up in the Head-Up Display but I seldom watch the actual Night Vision screen as it takes away focus from the road. Tough choice to get delivery super early or wait a month! Regards, Per

Design in seats

What package do you have to get in order to get the design in the seats?

No Remote Control Parking (5DV)? I find that surprising especially with the large doors and wide body. You're bound to find yourself jammed in a parking space because someone parked too close to you while you're in a store shopping.

Do you mean the 6 seat configuration or the blue/white seats?

For the 6 seat configuration, you'll need to add captain chairs (4U5). For the blue/white design you'd need the Ivory White/Night Blue Full Leather Merino seat design (VBEI).

I met with a BMW dealer in South India and he said they were taking order requests for X7s with the following colors: Pyrite Brown, Ruby Black, Ametrin Red, and Tanzanite Blue in addition to the ones in the options list attached in the forum. From my understanding, these are "Individual Colors" for the 7 series and a couple of "M" models.

Will US based customers get these color options too? I'd be willing to delay my purchase if I can get one of these colors.

Room for negotiation

Does anyone know what happens if you pre-ordered and walk away from the order? Does the dealer get to keep that allocation?
If not maybe there is room to negotiate on the price since the pre-order sale would be "gravy" for the dealer.
Does this make sense?

In New Jersey you can get your deposit back as long as you did not sign the purchase or lease agreement. I'm sure the same applies to most, if not all states. I'm not sure about the allocations.

Leather options

I love the full Merino leather as that gives me leather on the upper parts of the doors and I also think that is reasonably priced. My issue is that I don't want white leather seats as that is impractical and I want something darker like Coffee (or Blue seats). So far as I know the only option if I want leather on the upper side of the doors is to go for Ivory White/Night Blue Full Leather Merino.

I think that Merino Extended Leather will not give me leather on the upper side of the doors but I realize that I can easily add leather on the dashboard.

Anyone knows if there are any other options?

Thanks!

Regards, Per

Hmm, by "upper sides of the doors", are you referring to the section right below the window glass (the dark/black section) or the part below?

I'm asking because on the X5, if you order the leather dash, the narrow sections right below the glass are covered in leather as well - even if you don't order the extended leather (on the X5, there is no full leather option yet).

That might be something to consider....it could be the same on the X7.

Full merino will be available on the X5 from 4/2019 forward.

*This is a release from BMW, not BMWNA, so don't know if/when it applies to USA.

Interesting!

There are some pictures out there that showed the upcoming X5 M50i and that vehicle also had leather on the lower part of the dash. However, it did NOT have leather on the lower part of the doors, leaving the question if "full" leather on the X5 is going to be as "full" as it is on the X7 where basically everything is covered by leather.

Ah, found the image:

If you look closely, you can see the seam on the lower left corner of the image right below the trim indicating the leather covered lower dash. The dark, lower door section of the front passenger door, however, doesn't seem to be leather (no seam).

If that's really the case, BMW should call it "partially full" - LOL!

The only "full" leather that we've seen so far — X5 or X7 — has been the ivory/blue on the recently delivered X7s. I went through a couple of videos to see if any show the map pockets. Here's a pic of a rear door map pocket with leather and stitching.

Yup, that's how the full leather looks on the X7. You can clearly see the stitching on the door pockets which are clearly absent on the picture of the X5 I posted.

The X5 in the picture, though, certainly has more leather than the currently available "extended" leather because even when you opt for extended, the lower dash is not covered in leather.

So, the image shows either something between "extended" and "full" which is unlikely or - what I believe but certainly not hope - the door pockets on the X5 will never be leather covered..

Yes - adding the leather dashboard is probably what I'll do - that way I'll (probably) get leather on the small parts right beneath the windows on the doors. Sounds like the best option. And I would rather not have leather on the map compartments as that will most likely be scratched by myself or my kids.

Thanks all for great insights!
