Heading home from Mammoth Lakes, CA on Sunday, 3/3, two days after official G07 sales started. I was in a G05 X5 loaner from Crevier.

Pulled up to a de-badged X7 with nothing but M badges on the front fenders behind the wheels (like how they are in Europe). Mirror caps were dark gray metallic like on M Performance cars.

Passed it on the left and it got behind me and started to catch up. Followed me over 100mph before falling back. Was hoping it would catch up so I could give a thumbs up.

The badging situation and mirror cap color points to some sort of pre-production press car or something similar.

Any clues? M50d testing?

It was probably the X7 M50i that you saw.Its going to start production in August as a MY20,since it will be replacing the current X7 50i.It makes sense that there would already be some pre production ones roaming around.Someome already posted a pic of the X5 M50i on the X5 forum.

Dirty black?

In all seriousness, yes, if we're going to see the 2020 models in August, we're only 5 months away from the next MY, and the X7 just got released. I wonder if there's going to be a lot of 50i owners in August thinking "maybe I should have waited just 5 months, to get the new more powerful engine!"

I really dislike the cerium grey trim on the M Performance models,so i am happy to be getting my X7 M Sport with a V8 and the black high gloss shadowline trim.
