USB ports?
What is the story with the USB ports in the F8X?
How many are there, where are they and do they all provide the same functionality? In my E90 M3 ( which is not mine any more since I traded it a few days ago ) there were two, one in the glove box and one in the arm rest. I only used the one in the arm rest. The question I ask is to see if it's meaningful to bring an iPod to my euro delivery when the arm rest USB is occupied by a memory stick with euro maps. There was some discussions in another thread but I didn't get a clear idea what the car offers here. |

Good question. There is supposed to be one in the glovebox as well as the armrest. My wife's 328 has both, but I saw an M4 with enhanced BT package and it did not have both. I didn't look in my M4 glovebox when I did ED.

F8x has new NBT iDrive. E9x M3 had the CIC iDrive.
NBT = 1 USB port standard, 1 USB port optional (6NS baseplate/Connect snap-in USB) =2 USB ports for music (USB music and Connect snap-in USB), 1 USB for dual-mode (USB music/data) = both USB ports in center console CIC = 2 USB ports standard, 1 USB port optional (6NR baseplate/Media snap-in USB) = 2 USB ports for music, 1 USB port for HDD data up/downloading = 2 USB ports in center console (music and Media snap-in USB), 1 USB port in glovebox (data) To use iPod/iPhone with NBT in Europe, use either Bluetooth Audio or get 6NS and the iPhone Connect snap-in. The USB port (music/data) in the center console will be used for the European maps via USB stick. Last edited by Technic; 07-13-2014 at 11:58 AM.. |

GBPackerfan1963, the euro maps used to be loaded on the HD, it was the case with my earlier EDs but now it supposedly on memory stick. Looks like I'll be leaving my iPod at home unless there is a glovebox USB that works for music. |

The CIC glovebox USB was eliminated with the NBT -fixed the typo.
The F8x NBT center console USB replaced the CIC glovebox USB as it is a dual-purpose port -music and HDD access. Quote:

There is one USB in the center console which was used for the Nav USB stick and do not remove! I got a dual USB lighter charger adapter and plugged into center console for my iphone and charge the battery for the go pro. The Bluetooth connection worked perfectly with the enhanced USB connect to play all my music.

You can listen on the plane, and worst comes to worse you just don't use it. If, however, you find that you might need it and it's home...you'll regret it. Not like it takes up a lot of space. |

Because the F8x has an NBT iDrive then there is no glovebox USB anymore. |

As Suave had said, the euro navi maps are loaded into a USB stick so best to bring a cigarette lighter adapter if you want to charge your devices.
Having said that, my car came with the euro maps loaded into the HD so I actually had the USB port free. YMMV. |

For folks doing European Delivery though, the experiences have been inconsistent with Euro maps (on the USB stick provided). This is my understanding from reading posts across F3x forums:
- Some had to keep the stick in the USB port for maps to work. - Some could unplug and plug as desired. - Some had to visit a dealership once unplugged to enter some codes in order to make it work again upon plugging in. - Some only had to plug in once to install. Anyone can clarify this mess? |

Why can't you just load the map onto the HD?.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I, however, pulled mi=y map usb out, plugged in my iPod when I knew where I was going, and then when I needed the maps, I unplugged my iPod and then plugged in my maps usb and it worked fine. Try it while you are in the Welt with the Advisor and see what happens. If you need an activation code, they can do it there. If you don't need it, then you will have the same great experience I had! yay! |

I wonder if it's possible to load the maps from the USB to the HD and then unplug the USB stick permanently....
