Welcome! Nice to meet you.
Its an exciting time for you...its an awesome car! I say get the xenons before getting the leather if you are having to choose options.....ask bella. Good luck...let us know how it goes.

I really doubt I'll need AWD. I mean I'm only going to drive it to school and out like to the mall or downtown during the weekends. I'm not driving through snow or anything.. and even if I do take it up to the mountains in the winter to ski, there's always chains, right? So i can save my parents money by not getting awd.

I was about to talk about the fantastic seats of the sport package, but then again I have second thoughts...
This is your first car, and you want to be safe with it, so I don't think you need the top speed to be even higher. On the other hand, if you get rid of leather, the sport package seats are a bargain. Anyways, if your parents are paying for it, you shouldn't abuse their kindness and have every option, just go with what you think you really need... And enjoy the drive, because however you equip it, the car is an awesome machine! |

Just the steering wheel??
Not sure...but the rest of the package is awesome (seats, wheels, etc)...so, if you could afford to get that, I would jump on it.

I say go for sport. It enhances the aesthetics of the car and completes the focus on performance. BMW's aren't meant to be cushy little crusiers; it is about the driving experience and the tactile feel of total control on the road. It isn't nearly as satisfying if you don't embody this aspect of BMW ownership, and perhaps you should consider another brand. Besides a 149mph top speed and better handling, it improves the aesthetics in my opinion. I really like the look of the 161 wheels, lowered profile, awesome seats, and steering wheel. Besides sport, I recommend Xenons, and Logic 7 (if you are particular about the quality of sound and like it loud). Any way you take it, however, an E90 is an extemely gratifying and visceral experience.

I really doubt they'll allow you to get just the steering wheel; however, if you can somehow look up the part number for it and are able to order it, you could perhaps persuade the dealer to install it for you. I personally would take the sports package over nav, but it's pretty clear you have different needs than the regular enthusiast member on this board. In that case definitely get Xenons; besides looking really cool, they provide outstanding visibility, strike fear into the hearts of those in front of you, and THEY FREAKING TURN! If your budget is really that tight, I say don't get power seats but xenons instead. Adjusting a seat isn't really that big of a deal and anybody looking at your car will be able to see xenons, but not power seats.

Hey, welcome to the forum!
The steering wheel IS very nice, but you can't get it as a separate option. You're best bet is to get a manual instead and get the sport package. For me, the sport package is much more than the steering wheel though. It gives you bigger wheels, lower, tighter suspension, nicer steering wheel, and really comfy adjustable bolster seats. Even if I wasn't into driving, I would get it anyway for the looks. Here's a picture of my steering wheel, it's great. They added the thumb notches in September.
