How does the RC interact with the various modes in the XM such as the Stepstronic and Engine Dynamics. I’m assuming it works in all modes (Comfort/Sport/Sport Plus) for each setting with varying impact.

I had a RC in my previous X5M, but it’s been a minute so can’t remember how it functioned in the different drive modes. I also didn’t have app control in that one.

It will just amplify the power in all modes, except when you are on electric drive.

Not sure about JB4, I have dropped their products many2 years ago due to many reasons.
But, RaceChip has been smoother power delivery, great high speed processor, made in Germany, and finalize the product before releasing it to the public to become the guinea pig.
I have been working closely with RaceChip in the past 8 years, including datalogging and testing maps on newer application where I have access to the car.

I was wondering the same thing as the JB4 is over $300 more expensive than the RaceChip. I had a RaceChip in my F85 X5M and had no issues so I’m leaning that way for the XM. Just planning to get to 1,200 engine miles first.

I do trust racechip more just because r33_RGSport codeveloped it and has had it on his vehicle for months now problem free

The stock tune is probably already pretty aggressive on pump gas so there’s likely less headroom there.

Agree the marketing claims are ridiculous.

That’s not much in terms of a performance increase to lose your warranty over though.

I think it’s a solid increase over a base model, a label not so much.

Still waiting for local Label’s owner for me to datalog and dyno.

I think JB4 cost more since you’ll need to buy the Bluetooth Dongle separately, and the App is additional cost.
I don’t understand how they can sell it that expensive where their components are RadioShack pieces and bits.

It will not void your overall warranty; however, BMW has the ability to see evidence of it in the diagnostic logs - even if it’s removed before taking it in for service. Unless you have a blown motor or other engine or drivetrain-related problems, it will largely go unnoticed. On the flip-side, you will have a hard time getting a blown motor replaced under warranty if they see evidence of this modification.

This is a pretty well established product, so I’d say it’s a low-risk mod.

That’s what I was thinking, when I first was thinking about a race trip I was hesitant, but the 4.4L V8 has been in the BMW wheelhouse for a very very long time. The only thing new is the added battery, but that has no bearing on the motor being tuned so I’d say it’s a pretty safe bet

The thing is: the V8 seems to be highly de-tuned in the XM (esp the Base) given total system Power is 644hp with the electric motor delivering 194. I know it’s not a simple sum of the ICE + Electric power inputs but that V8 is capable of 600hp on its own.

So in my mind the RC (or JB4) are only bringing it back to it’s sweet-spot of which in no way should stress it’s limits.
