Plug & Charge - participating providers

I have added EA and EVgo to Plug & Charge on MyBMW app.

Are there other providers that are worth adding to the list of Plug & Charge providers?

I’m not sure what you mean about adding EVgo to plug and charge through the app. The only integrated charging network options through the app are EA and the Shell Recharge network which encompasses many including EVgo. This is not related to plug and charge necessarily. I am not sure if the Shell network supports plug and charge as the only P&C contract in my vehicle is EA despite registering for the Shell network as well.

Thanks. I added EVgo manually on the EVgo app. EVgo calls it "Autocharge". I didn't know the Shell network included any of their charging stations.

https://www.evgo.com/autocharge/

With respect to DC charging on a long trip I think the only other worthy provider is Chargepoint which does not seem to link with the vehicle VIN for Plug & Charge.

Did I miss any?

There are no BMWs listed as compatible for their Autocharge+. I just used the myBMW app and registered for the Shell recharge network which is one signup for many companies including EVgo and Chargepoint.

If you go to that website, BMW is not on their list of approved manufacturers for Autocharge.

In the MyBMW app, you can sign up for the Shell Network for payment at several charging vendors, including EVgo. That doesn't include plug and charge functionality.

The iX is not listed on that web page but it is on another EVgo site. Here is the confirmation from the EVgo app after I made the link my adding my VIN.

I’m not sure if this will work. Does the contract show up in the vehicle in iDrive?

While it is easy to have plug and charge, I’m not using it (my car does not seem to have it … but I had Autocharge activated on one network). But I learned the hard way that I could save 30% using another charge card … so I deactivated autocharge to have more flexibility …

Plug and charge contracts are in the charging menu in iDrive in the plug and charge section (2024 and newer models only).

Adding your vehicle into the EVgo app does nothing. This is not plug-and-charge confirmation. I have my iX and another car in the EVgo app but neither car has autocharge+ nor plug-and-charge.

Did you enter your VIN on the EVgo website?

You mean in the EVgo app, yes. There is no where to enter a VIN on the website. Autocharge+ is enabled via the app. The iX isn't listed as a vehicle that supports Autocharge+ anyway.

Again, this is also not a very secure authentication method but they do have some mitigating controls to limit abuse if you want to accept the risk. Autocharge+ is not the same as plug and charge.

I've not heard anyone on the forums mention a successful plug and charge experience anywhere besides EA.

I'm gong to give it a go if I see an EVgo charging station to see if the plug and charge works.

No. There is nothing free with Shell recharge. I wouldn’t bother with them for an account either but it might be different where you are. Their chargers here are slow, expensive and often in poor locations. There is no benefit to setting it up in the app. They’re so bad that I haven’t tried them when I travel elsewhere either. They do have roaming agreements with other CPO but you can do the same with a ChargePoint account which at least offers convenient L2 destination charging and the same roaming agreements as Shell. The only free offering is with EA.

The vehicle comes with EA 2 years of free charging and plug and charge - a contract agreement between two companies. No other network gave BMW permission or rights to do so on theirs. Just my thought why you will have to do it the original way through the app by plugging in and selecting the charging station to initiate it.

I got my Plug & Charge and the contract for free 30 minute charging implemented. Kinda shocked that it's working with decent speed and no need to use an app. Like it advertises, just plug it in & the first 30 minutes are on them.
At the EV station by Bank of America inn Kingston, NY, from 55% to 80% in 20 minutes.
It took several calls to EA support, working with 3 "product specialists" at dealership, hlad it's done.

I had Plug and Charge and it Worked first time I used it for 18 minutes and then just disconnected for some reason.

Tried it 2 weeks later and the contract was no longer in the car.

Sent a few e mails and they said they would forward it to the right people. We shall see.

I am bringing car in for service tomorrow as the horn doesn’t work so I will ask them.

Tried using EA today with the Plug & Charge certificate installed to charge the BMW IX for the first time but having to tap the "BMW i powered by EA" card in my iPhone that my wife (who is the primary driver) shared with me.

Would it have worked automatically as a Plug & Charge if the car was using her BMW ID at the time instead of mine?
