milehigh, you have dealt with this situation exceptionally well. I think quite a few people in this same situation would not have been able to deal with it so professionally. ( remember the cold stone guy )
It sounds like you have everything under control, and I wish you all the best. I do agree that milehigh should not get involved at all with how the dealership deals with the tech. That said, I hope they fire whoever is responsible for this. What's wrong with you people? It's that kind of attitude, "oh its not his fault, just let his co-workers tease him about it, or everybody makes mistakes" that is wrong with America!!!! He should be fired AND held financially responsible 100% No matter what ends up happening, it's going to cost the dealer $ and the horrifying experience will always be with milehigh. You can't take that away. Financial incentives are nice, a new car is nice, but it doesn't change his delivery experience. Would any of you want this tech working on your baby? Would any of you want to do business with a dealer that allows incompetence with its tech or shop managers? I know that when I'm going 130+ mph ( on a closed track ) I wouldn't want to think about an incompetent tech that worked on my car. The word of the day is " ACCOUNTABILITY"

If you decide on ordering another 330xi, ask them to search inventories from other dealerships around the Rocky mtn area, or even across the US. You can probably get an exact match without the wait. But the downsides are:
1) you might get a car produced in the summer or fall 2005. 2) it might have been test driven by other customers. (some customers really step on it and don't consider the break in period) By the way, can I ask how much you received off MSRP? |

Milehigh - sorry to hear of all your troubles. After your good experience regarding pricing at Gebhardt, I figured I would end up checking them out when I'm ready to buy, but now I'm not so sure.
I'll be interested to hear how everything is resolved, and to see if you would still recommend them. BTW, I'm a season ticket holder too. Can't wait for tomorrow's game. |

It sounds like MileHigh got a low oil level light, which would be indicative of the situation he described (leaving the oil filler cap open). This is NOT a critical failure (the owners manual even says that one is to add oil "immediatly" but you may "continue your journey."). The other fault is an oil pressure warning, which is just about the most critical warning you can receive and you need to pull over ASAP (though I do not know if the N52 ECS shuts the motor down before damage can occure, if it does, that is a pretty cool feature). It sounds like MileHigh did NOT get an oil pressure warning. I was trying to convey the fact that a dealer would have a difficult time covering up such a warning because it would be displayed for all to see on the instrument cluster. |

Good thing to know the dealership gave you the choice of another car. I think that by not jumping at it, the dealership is more willing to listen to what you say.

Work through with the dealer is the next step in a calm manner. You will get better results. Unless the engine froze up you should be fine. good luck.

nice, be reasonable with the dealership and they'll be reasonable right back
sounds like a good dealership it's when people go into the dealer kicking and demanding that problems start, you have to at least give them a chance to fix the problem correctly before any fit throwing is acceptable |

wow, doesn't anybody look under the hood anymore when there's a warning? In hindsight, a quick look at the dealership to admire your new engine would have prevented a lot of grief. (This can also be said of your service manager, if he would have taken a final look under the hood it would have saved them a lot of trouble. ) Good to hear that you won't be persecuted for driving your car all the way home and driving it back to the dealership under those conditions.

Im surprised no one seemed to notice there is another problem with his proposition to the dealership: If factory options are marked up 50% ,then acessories priced at 2k cost 1500 to the manufacturer, not 1k.

1500 + 50% = 2250 1333 + 50% = 2000 either way, what the op probably meant is that the cost of a $2000 option is really only 50%. ie $1000 Milehigh: What was the final outcome? |

Ok everyone, I'm on the road this week, but talked with the dealer on Monday several times. They found the problem, a CRACKED "O" ring on the oil filter! It came from BMW that way and once the engine came up to operating temp the O ring split and oil started leaking out! They checked and the engine ONLY LOST about a quart and a half of oil. They have done a complete service, steam cleaned everything, replaced the hood liner, and BMW has extended the warranty to 100k for all the inconvenience! :rocks:
I'll be back in town late today and pick up the car again on Thursday morning! While all of this sucks, the dealer has done the right thing at all times. Just about anybody can sell a BMW, what separates the men from the boys is way they service it after the sale! THANK YOU Gebhardt BMW in Boulder!
