TDC or anybody know the weight of the 135i?!!?
I'm first on the list for this car.....going to trade in my e90 335i for the 135i coupe. I'm really hoping it's below 3200. I hope they don't make us a pig again, I love my chipped 335i for the power but the cornering just isn't there. Anyone who can shed any light would be greatly appreciatied.

300 HP + 300 lb-ft + 3000 lb = 135i = surefire winner!
Even if it comes in a few pounds heavier, it'll be great. But I'm still hopeful for a light car. Given the engineering success BMW has had in recent years making pigs seem light on their feet, i'm jacked up thinking of a light car with big power.

I look at the weight in kilos of the 130i msport in uk, if I'm correct by multiplying by 2.2 then it weighs 3,190lbs. I'm thinking the 135i might come in at 3,250-3,300 now.
Looks like without gutting it, we will only get down to around 3150, oh well. |

Well, the 5-door comes in at 1460 kg which is roughly 3220lbs.
Figure you get yourself some forged rims (save about 60lbs), delete the sunroof (perhaps a good 30lbs loss there), don't bother with power seats (at least another 50lbs) and you're looking at 3080lbs!

I can handle dropping the sunroor (i didn't know you can do that, can you?) But I'll need the power seats. But I'll definately go iforged and drop the runflats to save weight as well, also, you can see some big weight gains with after market exhaust, in the 335i you can lose 35 lbs, and that sticking with a SS exhaust.

A 335i has US curb weight of 3570lbs. Even if you drop 300lbs for the 1, it still weighs in over 3200lbs. Sorry guys, but to expect the 1 to be 4~500lbs lighter than the 3 is a bit unrealistic to me.

In the end, I hope the car's light, but I'm not going to forego air conditioning, stereo, air bags, moonroof and a bunch of other things because they're nice and I want them. Power seats? I can pass on them. Your list is different than mine. Together our list makes the car heavy. With luck, the 135 will be available with a long list of optional equipment, which can be selected or omitted by the buyer. If someone wants a lighter car, they may be able to order it that way by denying themselves something. Further, they can replace heavy components (seats, wheels, exhaust, etc) with lighter aftermarket components. All this costs money, both before and after the purchase of the car. For me, I'll probably be lucky to get the weight of my 135 down to the weight of my old E36 M3.

Well the 130i hatch weighs 1450kg EU1 and the N54 engine is 28kg more than the N52.
So add on a bit for the extra metalwork / equipment etc and I'd say 1500kg (3305 lbs). This is to EU1 (so includes 68kg driver, 7kg luggage and 90% full tank) So, about 1385kg unladen (3053 lbs) - i.e. the same way that people like Porsche quote their figures. |

I agree. That's why I've kept the OE seats in the MINI. It's a street car.

Re weight - I don't see a big mystery here - it's got to be within 100 pounds of the equivalently engined and equipped hatch version I would think, since they share basically the same chassis - only variances would be the body panels and maybe one or two reinforcing beams.
