Speed discrepancy fixed
Just a note to let you all know I just got my X7 back and said they updated the software. I have noticed that the speed now matches Waze. Before update at 80, Waze showed 5 mph slower.
Also, the driving assist seems smoother and less ping-pong. Thought you all would like to know. |

I just got my 19 X5 50 updated at the dealer to this version also. It is much more stable. The SA also said that OTA updates won’t come before next year as they have a lot of testing their working through.

My 19 X7 50i was off by at least 10%, was driving me nuts!! If the Speedo said I was doing 80, I was actually doing around 71-72 mph.
Just had it flashed and fixed at the dealership, now only off by about 2% which is acceptable to me. |

Had mine updated on Wednesday while having other warranty work done and was told by the service manager that there is a problem with the update and BMW would have a new update in a few weeks to correct. There is a module that is drawing power from the battery while the car is parked and not locked. He told me to keep the car locked whenever it is off so to keep the battery from draining. The speedometer offset has been corrected. |

I am having the same issues. At an indicated 70 mph it feels like you're driving in reverse because everyone else is blowing by you. Anyway, I took the car in yesterday for the tire issue, a warranty item, and some recalls. I asked them about the speedometer issue but this particular dealership was unaware of a fix. Here is the propaganda sheet from BMW addressing the speedo error. Evidently a "10% + 2.4 mph variance is acceptable on a high end luxury vehicle. I'm not a betting man, but I would place a healthy wager that my pickup truck doesn't have a speedo variance anywhere near the "allowable" threshold for BMW. I had the software updates done and it didn't seem to fix the speedo problem.

I was off 5mph at 80, if that doc was right, they would be ok with 10.4 off at 80. 😳 My X7 is perfect now. I'd push back. |

That's what I said also. I'm not done by any means. I will take it up with them for sure. Thanks.

I assume you guys are using Waze (or some other software) to determine your actual speed. I noticed my speed to be off as much as 5 mph (BMW displays 75, Waze displays 70) but this doesn't happen all of the time. At times the two speeds match almost exactly so I would assume it is an iDrive software bug. I haven't had my shop install the latest iDrive version yet. I wanted to wait and read what others have been experiencing. The issue reported above about a battery drain when the X7 is turned off but not locked is a good example of why you never wanted to be their beta tester. I use Waze most of the time anyway so I go by that speed. Hopefully BMW gets the X7 iDrive software nailed down soon and gets OTA updates pushed out to all owners before years end.

After 15 years and 10 BMW's I'm used to their 'slower' speedometer and merely drive 5 MPH faster than it says, ain't rocket science. |
