Launch Control

Does my 2019 X7 50i have launch control? I see it in the owners manual but I always thought this was restricted to M models.

Comes in msport package...option code 2TB. You may be able to enable through coding if it's not already done so on 50i

I do have the M sport package. I will try it and see if it works.

2TB is standard for the G07, so you don't even need the M Sport package.

The basic rule of thumb since ~2013 has been any car with paddles has the sport transmission, which comes with launch control. The G8x is the exception now since they managed to put launch control in the optional manual transmission.

I'm fairly certain the recent (2013+) cars without launch control would be limited to a current 2 or previous 3 series with the optional manual transmission, and the non-performance diesel cars (didn't have the Mxxd in the US anyway, and don't have diesel around at all in the US anymore).

I stand corrected. Thanks for clarifying

What is launch control and how do you use it?

It's the best thing ever. Put in full sport, press the brake and gas. Then released the brake when you see the flags.

Launch mode. It's on almost every "m" car that bmw makes from 1990-2025

Allows you to build some boost prior to launch along with optimizing traction and shift points. You could achieve fairly similar results with doing some brake boost and putting it in sport traction, but it gives some more consistency and the shifts are measurably faster.

Activation varies depending on the chassis, but they're all fairly similar, just different nuances if you're dealing with a full M car pretty much anymore. Attached is the procedure for the X7.

Those of you with an x50i actually get this to work. I have a 2019 x50i but can't get the flag to show up.

Given the current state of your vehicle, i wouldn’t recommend trying this out. Who knows, maybe some parts go lose again!

Make sure you drive it at least 6 miles before you attempt lunch control. The car will only at you do launch control after 6 miles.

I read that it is limited to 50 launches. Is this true? If so, why would they create a feature with such a limit? And....I'm sure someone has figured out a way to modify to "reset" any such counter....

I've done well over 50 launches in my M cars… I highly doubt the X7 has a limiter there.
