Seems like these minor updates are bandaids until a larger more in-depth update is released. I am still running my original software and all the major stuff works semi reliable. I will work around it until a major update.

No, it hasn't been released yet in the US. I think it came out in Europe last month.

I am with you on this. I have issues of occasional key not found, comfort access not reliably detecting proximity, CarPlay flakiness and the dreaded steering twitch in cold weather (this only happens when car is outside when I am at work and it’s very cold). As long as it starts and takes me where I need to go safely I am going to wait for a major update.

Unless of course I have just jinxed myself. Then all bets are off

Dropped off my ver .23 week 40 at dealer today for check engine light service. I was offered, but declined, a software update while they had the vehicle there; I'm not experiencing any major issues, that I'm aware of.

Please report back on how well/poorly your update goes. Thanks. I might have them do the install.

Same. So far no new X5 owner has said "mine doesn't have all the bugs you guys are pointing out". But existing owners that have brought their vehicles in to the dealer, to have the software updated.... too many bad experiences.

I could be one of those and I also have not seen anyone else on .53 say they are having a lot of the issues that we have seen in the past. I would consider mine bug-free, hopefully I just didn't jinx myself.

I had a seatbelt/restraint light error come on this weekend and had to take it to the dealership here in Germany. They said they had to do an update and, before I could even ask them not to, it was done ask they were test driving the car.

When I got back in, the light was off but I couldn't seem to find what version they updated me too in the iDrive...

Of note, it may just be a strange placebo but it seems like the X5 is driving better after the trip to the dealership. Hard to explain how though...

I have no software gripes...save for the Follow me home lights do not follow me home, notwithstanding that the option is ticked.

Were you driving a loaner something like x1? That could explain it

Although I don't seem to have many bugs I am on .49 currently . Can those that have gone from 49 to 53 comment on what improvements they see? Thanks

.53 from factory

The only issues I am noticing are:

Key fob not detected every once in awhile when the passenger door opens. The message clears itself after couple of minutes. Remote start and comfort access works fine. The weather and news tiles goes missing once in awhile and comes back the next day without any reboots. The app is slow but no issues seeing my car through the remote app. Also sometimes my iphone X fails to connect to Carplay and I have to manually connect to the Wifi.

Just got ours back from service. We are now running software version .65. We'll see how it goes.

I’m just guessing based on what I have read since this is my first BMW and no experience. True and false, for major updates there is no need to have an issue to fix. Hopefully these will be OTA so it wouldn’t matter but if they are not the dealer would do them without question. For minor releases they will not (or prefer not) do an update unless there is a specific problem that needs to be solved.

Now we can hear from those who know.

Yeah.... my policy with my clients is I'll only do firmware if it fixes something. Obviously when commissioned every device has the latest available at that time, but so much can go wrong with a "simple update". For instance, the firmware released for the Crestron TSW panels last week breaks the RAVA SIP intercom so the panels can't talk to gates and other panels. It was a very minor update that solved only a specific issue, but created at least one other significant issue. It's just not worth it to anyone to update unless it fixes something or adds a desired feature.

So I took my GO5 in for a "rear restraint malfunction." They said I need to replace a module in the back for proper airbag deployment. I had version .30 and I told them to update me to the latest. After 4 days of my baby just sitting there waiting for the module to come in I told them to give it back to me until the part comes in as they gave me an X3 loaner and I can't drive that piece of .... I got it back with .49 (not the latest) and now I don't have news and whether and lots of more bugs. How can I go back and have them give me the latest? I'm sure they are going to tell me .49 is the latest but obviously they are wrong. Help please. Do I call BMW north America while they bullshit me at the dealer? Or does certain dealerships just have different levels of software?

Call another dealer in your area to see if they do the update. My dealer told me the same thing but I called another dealer he booked an appointment for software update.

The latest version is .63 ( in Canadian models)

It's a shame BMW doesn't publically provide release notes to explain what is in each update. I guess they do to the dealer network.

Edit: actually now I think of it I am sure you would be entitled to see this as it modifies the product you own
