M60i Highway Wind Noise

Just picked up my M60i this past week. Marina bay blue fully loaded. Love the car except for the wind noise on the highway. Sounds like it comes from both the drivers and passenger windows down by the mirrors. First time wife was in it she thought her window was open.

Anyone else having this issue?

I have a '23 40i and wife complains it is louder than our '17 Escalade. Mostly road noise.

It could be any one of the following issues. You'd think BMW would have resolved all of the following issues by this time. However, from what I'm hearing people with new vehicles are still having these same issues.

Good luck and keep us posted on what you find out.

Thanks this is very helpful. Might try to tape some areas with frog tape to see if I can isolate problem before taking it in.

Also -- do you have cross bars on your roof? The ones that go side to side (not front to back). Those are going to whistle at high speeds.

No crossbars. It sounds like it’s coming from window down by mirror. Like when your window is not all the way up.

Usually they can fix that by replacing the mirror housing. I had it done on my X3 some years ago. BMW will likely know about it but it's def a dealer fix and most likely IS covered under warranty

It's listed in the SIB 51 07 22 that I posted above about the mirrors.

Look at the mirror housing, where the two pieces come together like a clamshell. In between the mirror and where it attches to the door. Some mirrors have a big crack and it generates a lot of noise. Reach your hand out the window, block the wind and you can hear the difference.

Well I taped up the mirror and where it connects to car along with trim piece on the windshield which is loose but still hearing the wind noise. Feel defeated

I've had this thought as well - I had a 22 M50i before my 23 M60i and I honestly thought the M50i had less wind noise at highway speed. If you figure anything out let me know - I was going to bring up to my dealer as well.

I was surprised by the amount of wind noise in my new M60i also. I actually checked to see if the window was cracked open, but it wasn't. Haven't really noticed it now as I drive with music playing 90% of the time.

Interesting other people hearing the same thing. I wonder if it’s the new M mirrors?

Looks like those "M" mirrors aren't doing you guys any favors.

It truly wasn't too bad. I was really just expecting it to be very quiet. It was really windy when I noticed it, but haven't been bothered by it sense.

Mine is very noticeable. I thought window was not up all the way when first driving it and then wife was asking why window not all the way up after being on highway for 2 minutes. If this is “normal” I’m pretty disappointed

Did any of you that have this wind noise problem look at the other SIBs that I posted previously on this issue. I listed all of them in my previous post. Maybe you aren't seeing them. I listed a total of 6 SIBs regarding wind noise on the X7.

If you're not seeing them let me know and I will provide a link to each of them via the NHTSA website.

OP needs to go to the dealer and if they cant find it he should go to another dealer. This cannot be diagnosed here or with piece of tape.

I did. I will check out the mirror housing when I get back home after work. Thanks for sharing!
