Keep my posted if you ever find a solution. Same experience here for my 2022 despite trying to fix if several times. Given how many other 2022 vehicles I've seen with same issue (loaners) I hardly think there is any solution. Literally every single 2022 loaner of other lines (4-series, X6, and X3) I got had same issue to my 22. I truly believe the build quality and "structural" tolerances have recently gone all over the place recently, that I don't think can be fixed now, which is why I am going to trade mt 2022 for a pre-2021 BMW or anything else. Even measure the left-gate tolerances on the tail-gate, they are different on my 22 X7 when compared to my 19 X7. I can send pictures later when I can. Reason I did this is because the tail-gate also seems to shake or feel more rough on rough roads in my 22 than my 19. Every single issue points to universal build quality than anything else. I have to say that am old an OCD type of a guy for noises and stuff like this.

I don’t think it has anything to do with “structural” integrity. Doubt they changed anything in the building/tooling of the frame as most of that is automated or done by their machines.
It may be a case where BMW had to change out materials during the lockdown due to supply chain. For wind noise it may just boil down to the sound insulation not working or doing it’s job. These X7s are huge and don’t really get along with the wind. I haven’t noticed any difference in wind noise in our 2023 M60i versus our 2021 M50i…pretty much the same. I do notice depending on wind direction and how fast I’m driving that the little noise I hear changes. Also, I swapped over to my 21” all season wheels and the road/tire noise is different than my 22s. Not better or worse, just different. I still need to adjust air pressure in the fronts as it’s a bit high. I know we go on and on about build quality getting worse, but no two cars coming off the line will be exactly the same. There are parts and pieces put together by hand and that will always introduce variances. I’m sure there are also new people coming on the line and experiences ones coming off for various reasons…that will introduce variances as well. I would say overall build quality is the same or similar, so my guess is a change in materials may have occurred starting right before the lockdown and supply chain issues began. |

Just throwing this out there... I just returned from a road trip and thought I was hearing excessive wind noise and it seemed to be coming from the sideview mirror. Checked the windows and they were all up. Had the radio totally off and listened to the noise for about two minutes. Then, we went over a bridge and the noise went away. It was the tires on the pavement. A few minutes later and the pavement changed and the noise totally went away for good. I was convinced it was wind noise but it was tire noise.

I have the same exact tires (same brand and same size, 19”) on my 2019 and 2022. My 2022 has more wind noise than 2019. Not that it is not drivable, but certainly I can tell the difference.

I have a 2020 X7 MSport 40i and find it to be very quiet. Just the other day, I was in a colleague's 2023 X7 MSport 40i. We drove on a highway that I drive all the time and the new one is unquestionably louder, on the same stretch of road, at least subjectively. Same OEM tires and mine have more miles on them. No air leak in his car - just higher level of general road and wind noise. In my mind, something is up with the sound insulation (is this another cost cutting measure by BMW?), but again - subjective. Though I wish I could test objectively, I do not know this guy nearly well enough to suggest holding up a decibel meter while he drives down the highway.

Please be sure to test for wind noise in a lane where there is no meridian or separator. If you are driving and there is a concrete divider/separator on your left or right you are going to hear all sorts of noises including wind bouncing off the divider and engine noise hitting the divider and bouncing back. Best to test in the center lane.

Found solution
Finally, I found the issue with my car and wind noise. As someone stated in the previous comment, the issue was with the sunroof. The sunroof has two glass parts, which are separated by the rubber insulation. This rubber is a quarter inch short on the left side of the roof (driver's side), and surprisingly, it's a very noticeable hole. I took a piece of scotch and sealed it. It worked. Took a 60-mile trip and no more annoying wind sound. So happy! Scheduled an appointment with the dealer to replace it.

mitch57 posted some links in post #4.
Specifically: - The Panoramic Sunroof Diagnosis document shows three possible sunroof seal issues. It has two copies of the photos, on page 8/9/10 for water leakage and 24/25/26 for wind noise. - The second document linked by mitch57 is the SIB about the front center sunroof seal (the SIB doesn't contain photos of the actual issues, the previous document has photos) - And there's also another SIB for wind noise from the windshield side trim: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...75279-9999.pdf My 2022 has most of these issues, but relatively mild. My front center sunroof seal is shrunken on one end by a few mm, the side seal has a ~1mm gap on both sides, and the top of the windshield side trim is slightly twisted. I do experience some wind noise at 80+mph and occasionally at low speeds, but even then the wind noise is pretty minimal. So it makes sense that these mild issues would be causing the mild wind noise in my car. What's more worrying is that the sunroof seal gaps also lead to water leakage. Have we have water entering our roof for the entire time we've owned our X7s? It'll be interesting to see whether BMW5and7's '22 gets as quiet as his '19 once he gets the seal fixed. This isn't a new issue. The SIBs for these were published in 2020 and in late 2021. Additionally, from google I easily found posts on the X5 and X3 forums of people having these same sunroof seal issues in 2019/2020/2021. A few examples: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1882755 https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1665972 https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1738709 But it seems like the error rate at the factory has gone up by quite a lot. Attached photos from my car showing all the possible issues.
- The two edges of the front center sunroof seal (where the small moving pane meets the big fixed pane). On my car one side clearly has a gap, I think the other side is normal. - Gaps in the side seal (on each side of the big pane of glass). The ones on my car are pretty small, they may be within spec, not sure. - (Also check the entirety of the sunroof sealing on your car to see if there are any other flaws) - And misaligned windshield trim, not too bad on my car. The second picture is the gap that was causing my whistling noise. Dealer ordered new seal. Having said that, it is still loud around the mirror area which is apparently “normal”. Would love to drive a new 7 series and compare.

We were getting wind noise on our 2019 X7 and could not track it down. Checked door seals with no luck and finally I checked the rear seal of the sliding glass moonroof. The seal appears to have shrunk by about .5 inch. The seal can slide side to side revealing the gap on either edge of the sunroof panel. Slid the seal to one side and placed a piece of tape over the exposed opening on the other side and problem solved. Will visit the dealer to see if this can be replaced.

Wind noise is gone. Picked up X7 today. Dealer replaced sunroof seal and fixed bulkhead seal as per below service bulletin.
