Beyond the design and it's just my opinion, but the X7 is a stupid segment to be in. Its a big gaudy people mover.

They should make something that has multiple seats or cargo capacity but is as small as possible (like a Model X- not perfect but a great configuration)

Next, when you consider the price this thing will go for, wouldn't you rather have a Tesla Model X?

BMW needs to get back on on the electric horse they rode well to start.

TESLA is going to eat them.
Absolutely incorrect. The Model X, by all reports, has been a sales disappointment for Tesla. When people buy an SUV they want space, cargo capacity, towing, and most importantly range since SUVs are often used for road trips. The Model X is sub-par in all those areas and is extraordinarily overpriced relative to competitors which is why it doesn't sell.

I don't like the design or even the idea of the X7 either, but it will be the one eating the overpriced and mediocre Model X for lunch. As much as it blows, BMW finally needs a true 7-seater SUV to compete with the likes of the GLS, Q7, Range Rover, Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade, and QX which are all hot sellers to upper middle class/wealthy white people.

Basically, BMW's design department has run out of ideas and decided to add flair to their vehicles with nonsense like hockey sticks, enormous kidneys, and headlights connecting to the kidneys.

It works well on smaller models, but on larger models it looks like a**. These vehicles will age very poorly. They look more like flashy design elements for the sake of being different instead of elements that were properly integrated into the design.

The pro is that the interior is fresh something BMW is in need of since it has become stale outside the EVs. The exterior is a bit of a mess of copying every large luxury SUV brand and model BMW think appeal to noveau rich Americans. It will hopefully look very different and more European in a more restrained production version, if not I can see this becoming the most hated design since Bangle's 7 series.

The interior looks like it could be pretty nice.....But the exterior is so ugly no one will ever sit in it to know how nice the inside is!! This is even uglier than the Infiniti QX80, which I didn't think was possible.

Whoever at BMW thinks we want these massive kidney grilles, massive hockey stick air breathers, and chrome everywhere seriously needs to be fired.

Step 1. Fire the designers.

Step 2. Bury this thing three miles deep.

It's not possible. This thing is ugly but the QX80 is still far ahead in my books. It's like a giant PT Cruiser which is one of the all time ugliest cars all categories

This thread is great... I don't think there has been a single BMW design that Ive ever seen on this site that was as unanimously disliked! Even the fannyiest fan boys can't defend this atrocity.

With any luck this is the first time we are glad the production model doesn't look like the concept... seriously it's just silly looking.

I think this design also opens the door to BMW giving serious consideration to the design constraints they have to deal with in order to keep the double kidney grills on their cars. That front end (and others in the line up) would have a lot more design freedom if they didn't have to contend what is ultimately an unfortunate feature on the face.

Hate to say it, but it might be time to let it go. Pontiac stole it years ago anyway so it's hardly unique.

Boy, that thing is ugly...
Anyway, why all new BMW concept vehicles are presented with a horrendous grille?
I mean, everybody is blind in that department????

interior reminds me of Mercedes (not a bad thing), and I like it.

exterior could be okay with some changes (hopefully for production), but it looks like those grills are making final production. I don't get it, they are going slimline with lights but then HUGE grills? makes no sense. I think I could mock something up that looks better in photoshop in about 10 minutes!

get rid of all that satin/silver trim plus narrow the grills down and it might not look half bad.

problem with large SUVs, they will never look "good", but BMW tried to hard to be different on this one.
