BMW needs to terminate their head of supply chain as they failed to come up with proper contingency plans.
You might want to double check with your dealer….BMW website still shows touchscreen as default

I'm with OP, I'd be pretty upset about not having touchscreen on my x7. Crazy times we're living in! If buying a used car built in 2020-2022 you're going to have to check everything out super closely..
Just to be clear that's only model year 2021 and 2022 NOT model year 2020 that was built all the way to July 2020 with all available options and parts. I would know as I have a last week MY 2020 build with all options.

It all started going downhill and getting crazy from MY 2021…. August 2020.

That's not correct. The early MY 2021s had no issues with part availability for options.

I have a 2021 40i with a December 2020 build date with every option I wanted that stickered at $97K. I have DHP, HK audio, wireless charging, wifi etc. - all of the things that have since become unavailable or at least have been unavailable for that model at various times this year.

The parts shortages have worsened over the course of this year, with features and options dropping off on a rolling basis over time. There was no issue at the beginning of the 2021 model year.

At model 2021, premium options were removed like night vision, ambient air, rear entertainment, etc…. That was the start of stripping the flagship models of their top options.

I can confirm my 2022 M50i order scheduled for a week 46 build will not have the touch screen, per my CA. This will be a deal breaker for me. I don't use the touch screen (hate the fingerprints) but the lack of a touch screen is just not right on a 112K vehicle.

What are you all planning to do ? I can't use CarPlay without touch screen. My CA hasn't reached out to me yet about this issue and my production week is scheduled for week 47

This. I don't give the slightest f what supply chain issues are happening. Just delay the build if you have to, but deliver the WHOLE machine I ordered. I don't care when it shows up. FFS I waited months for my 135 order to show up, I can wait for some touchscreens to be built.

I started a thread about this over in the X5 Forum if anyone needs more information. It's very much true.

Maybe he didn't want the covid shot so he quit lol.

Seriously though, are you putting the blame on BMW supply chain mechanisms? There are so many larger things at play here it makes your head spin.

Start with holding the DOT, and the FED responsible, for sitting on their fucking hands while this train wreck proceeds forward and work your way down..

Is that for all BMWs or just the X7…I just ordered a M850i GC (set to enter production in December with a few Individual components), if it doesn't show up at the dealer exactly how I spec'd it (regardless of price reduction). I will not be taking delivery (once again).

Placed this order after my M440i GC order had the power seats deleted (I cancelled that one)

Yes, you and I scored fully loaded X7s at the last second. I wonder what premium we could put on them? lol

Yeah, but those were a bunch of low take-rate options that not a lot of people wanted. I think that had more to do with aligning option availability with what was actually selling vs. supply chain issues.

I ordered mine on 9/10 and picked it up today (10/28) and mine has the touch screen. That was the first thing I checked in the car…lol
Turns out you are right, the new orders don’t have touch screen. I gave them the feedback that this is rubbish if you are stopping base level expectations. I would not have bought a 100k car if this was not default. It’s weird that you ordered in Aug and were dropped.

Ordering isn't the same as having an allocation.

My 2018 i3 has carplay and no touchscreen, it's fully funcitonal with iDrive.

That said, no way I buy an X7 without it.

This is correct. Those options were removed from 2021 models because so few people selected those options in the USA, not due to a chip shortage. Those options are still available in countries where the demand was still there. I had Rear Entertainment in my old F10 M5 and my kids never used it. They watched their Ipads with cell service. The 2021 model planning was done prior to Covid. Chip shortages appeared after car companies were caught flat footed with surprising demand after everything opened up.

Haha, I would have jumped on it if my car was pushed back for later production. Buying a car from a neighbor would have been an easy transaction
