That's Denali, here in Alaska. Tallest mountain peak in North America, and tallest mountain in the world, when measured from above sea-level base, to summit. I was fortunate last year to be allowed to drive my X7 into the restricted Denali National Park, on a beautiful day. (road trip journal in my signature)

I will at least say that the lower bumper design is a big improvement overhaul the current luxury line. I would at least consider this trim for aesthetic but poses where I was adamant about getting an m-sport pre-LCI.

The change is also a little more subtle than most of the renders, holding true what we would expect with an LCI, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is legit. It gives me less pause to look at getting a 2022 right now.

We’ll see how long BMWNA let’s bimmerpost keep this up and on front page if that was really the case. Similar to the G8x video reviews that went up prior to the embargoes being lifted.

You're right of course, but then the G80 blew that conversation up. Huge grilles still look a mess on the regular 7er but X7 is tall enough to wear it.

If this were the new X7 design I think we'd have better things to complain about. It's fine

So two things here, I dont hate it, it doesnt look horrible.

Also I dont think it makes the current X7 look out of date either, it's a change, but not hugely radical.

With a 2022 X7 on the way I could have gone either way, I dont mind it but I am also not like man I wish I waited.

It’s a squinty eyed mess with a bit of the predator jaws. BMW is just destroying their designs with every new release.
That front end has a 10 years back Infinity QX80 vibe about it.

Looks like I will be looking into the next GLS63 when I am ready to buy and see if MB can keep some continuity in their design language.
I couldn't agree more. This looks better than I thought it would, however I'm extraordinarily happy I decided to build a new 22 last year before they started stripping these down even further.

I'm guessing this is the non-M / sport front end but I'm definitely not feeling it either. Feel like this is just change for change sake.

If you zoom in under the DRL, there is in fact one headlight that is separate from the DRL.

Man, people really are dense these days.

I REALLY wanted to like the LCI. I've been holding off on making a purchase decision until I'd seen the LCI. I need a 7 seater, good towing capacity, some snow/mild offroad capability, and something refined. The X7 just checks all the categories so well. I've considered the Range Rover and will consider the 3rd gen Range Rover Sport (when it's released), but their bad reliability reputation scares me.

I just don't like the look. It is not timeless; it it not beautiful. Maybe I'll suck it up and get one anyways since it's such a good fit.

Let’s face it, this is going to have potential buyers running to their dealers asap to order up a current X7 even with the parts shortages. Factor in the first year production problem and being a beta tester for the iDrive8 just to really make your life even more miserable. I have been a beta tester for the iDrive 7 and the iDrive7 today is a much different experience than the iDrive 7 the first year.

on the OUTSIDE, I still like mine better. That said, I need to see this up close to really appreciate it. In pictures, I'm fairly ambivalent. Then again, I wasn't mad at the 3/4 series snouts, and actually kinda like the m3 in green with the blacked out, twin slat M grilles. I guess that makes my opinion suspect haha

What first year production problems? This is the same G07 platform as current car? Its got a new front bumper, new lights, new rear bumper and new rear lights, nothing new aside from those.

iDrive 8 inside, by the time this hits showrooms, would have been in production and use for 13 months (since July 2021).

Why is there a doomsday approach to this car is beyond me?

It's really giving me a Hyundai palisade vibe. The headlight design just looks too similar

STUPID RANDOM SIDE COMMENT:

When I was at Coventry U around 07, we had a graduate give us a presentation. He was showing his project in designing the Mercedes B class. He also showed us design processes which also included the S class, drawings and concepts from their studios across the globe, the W221 specifically.

The big wheel arches were from a clay model that was developed in their Japanese studio. I remember thinking I guess there's no such thing as German, American, Japanese, English design anymore. Students from all over the globe, trained in design schools anywhere else, design can be from anywhere now. Hasn't been any country specific design in a long time.

BMWs design comes from Designworks in LA. That's the studio for BMW which was officially taken over by BMW in 1995. The Californian firm did the seats for for the e31 8 series. And In 93 started the design on the E46 exterior. Fast forward to the X's…the LA studio did the x1,x3,x5,x6,x7…

Sure the head honchos are German, but the director of design in LA is Finnish (I think) who was trained in design in Italy, in an American studio. Who knows where his subordinates come from?

Also I just took preworkout right before the gym so forgive any bad grammar.

TLDR: German design hasn't been German design for a while.

You forgot new engine.

This is someone that has lived both new BMW platform and more importantly new iDrive 7 beta tester. The 2020 iDrive 7 got all new hardware from the 2019 iDrive7 1st year production.
There will be 1st year iDrive 8 issues that has not even happened yet. It’s just the way BMW tech works. I and a few others practically worked on the G05 forum for the first year figuring out issues and sorting through multiple firmware updates. I have hours working with higher up BMW technicians over the phone trying to fix issue before the next firmware update.

2019 the G05/G07 came out in ideal manufacturing conditions and they were still buggy as hell. Now BMW can’t even build the current vehicles with the parts shortages. This is a perfect storm. Just look at the new S-Class release in these conditions, it’s a train wreck of highly compromised vehicles on the dealers lot.

If it aint broke, break it apparently. Unfortunately, too much in the last 10 years every time a new BMW design is revealed, the phrase "grows on you" features in some form or fashion. Why does it have to grow on me? Why can't it just blow me away to start with? Can't remember the last time I saw a new BMW design that stunned me and made me feel like I would do anything to own it. Audi somehow seems to get it right more often than not. Heck even Kia/Hyundai/Genesis are making serious design noise these days.

Agree with everything you said. BMW is shoving unnecessarily crazy designs in consumers' faces. Why do we have to tolerate designers who are high on drugs and hallucinating?
