Did I say M3 is better than RS5? No, because in reality I do not care, even if I sometimes like to say "My car is faster than yours". 80% depends on driver.

Yes back to topic. The RS5 is a good looking car. I'm still concerned about the overall weight.

If your desire is something to regularly take to the track then I would share your concern because with weight comes greater tyre and brake heat, but as these cars seldom venture to the track it's weight is less of a problem.

In reality all these cars (M3, RS5, C63, etc) weight too much for anything more than a few laps without brake and tyre heat problems curbing your fun, sure you can switch to more suitable products but is that truly the point.

This would be the deal breaker. If it weights as much as the M3 I would bite but im afraid its going to weight at least 160lb more than the M3.

I always look at performance cars from the perspective of true performance, not stop light mashing. I daily drive a 2007 Hyundai Sonata, and occasionally the 335i I got for my wife. The GT3 comes out for the weekend and track days where I can actually push the car to it's limits (something I still have yet to do).

So you're right in one respect, all this discussion about the RS5 and M3's performance from people who have never visited a track and how they compare to each other, coupled with the immature arguments about slalom times, are all moot. My Sonata will get me from home to my various offices, or the grocery store in about the same amount of time, and comparable comfort as an RS5 or M3.

I don't see any use of discussing these kind of cars in terms of "daily driver" performance. For me, yes it is the point to look at these vehicles from a track oriented/performance perspective, which includes discussion of weight.

Yes, also taking into account that the M3 is already very porky.

I am thinking of getting a 2011 Vantage over the M3 and the RS5.

As a daily driver, I doubt you'll notice very much difference. It all comes down to which one you appreciate in terms of looks and interior.

In the looks department I think the Vantage wins hands down.

It's an Aston, they are one of the best looking car brands in the world imo

Even with the RS5 using the special aluminum from Audi, I'm still willing to bet that it will for sure be heavier than the current M3. How much heavier tho, I do not know.

I wish I could get a Vantage. Pushing 100k incl tax is as close as I'll get though.

Garduna have you heard horror stories about driving the M3 in winter? I just need to make sure if the RS5 is actually going to be this late that I don't get a car that's going to ass-fuck me in the winter. I would be buying the best winter rubber if that's any consolation.

I only know 2 people that own a M3 and drive it during the winter time. 1 is living in Toronto as well and he puts on good winter rubber. No major issues but he does wish for a suv or 4wd vehicle during the Canadian winters. The other person I don't know personally but he lives in Montreal. He never spoke about any problems during the wintertime with his M3.

That's all know about man, I've never driven a M3 during the wintertime so I can't really comment on if it can handle it well or not.

I'm assumption is that the RS5 would do pretty well under snow/icy conditions. And yes, good rubber makes all the difference as well

Autoblog just listed that the RS5 config is up.

RS5 = 3800 lbs, M3 coupe = 3700 lbs. Not too bad lol

The actually figure when weighed with the same method that BMW use is 1800kgs, which in old money is 3960lbs.

Don't believe everything you read.

Will the rs5 be getting the google earth like in the A8? The A8 was supposed to get it first and then it would trickle down to the other models. By next year, I hope the RS5 will have it on the options list.

And why isnt audi bringing it overseas this year? We all know it WILL come to the states, but what is the difference in selling it next year vs this year? I would think with all the R&D, Audi would bring it out with some urgency. Already being a -late to the game- M3 competitor, audi chooses to release a halo car in the distant future? Makes no sense to me.

They probably have to do some adjustments, mainly emission reasons. Just like how the aston martin v12 vantage needs to get some tweaks before it comes overseas.

The decision to include North America was taken very close to it's official unveiling.

BTW, the RS4 was the first of the breed and this was the car that BMW reacted to with the latest M3. So I think you have got it wrong thinking that the RS5 is late to the game, though I personally think they chose to run with the wrong engine choice but that me.
