CS Owners
I’m currently in the process of installing a CS front splitter with all the factory hardware mounts. I’d like to know if anyone has any pictures with the front spoiler off exposing the two brackets which show the area that has been cut away from the front bumper trim. This would really help me determining the area that is to be cut away. My instructions have the measurements but I’m really a visual guy at heart.
Thanks in advance |

Just to add to this, does anyone know if the CS come with the same front bumper as the Competition or is it a different part to accommodate the splitter hardware? I seem to think the latter as I found different part numbers (51118073518 and 51118746835, though this is European spec).
If anyone has a pic of the front bumper with the splitter removed I'd be very interested to see it. Last edited by Crossmax; 04-05-2024 at 03:28 PM.. |

I'm not sure if the bumpers are the same between the CS and Comp, but they certainly look like it. The obvious difference with the Euro bumper is that it doesn't have the cutouts for the side markers.
I've mounted 2 CS-style splitters on my M2C. I had to replace the first one along with the bumper because we hit some road debris. In both cases, I used the mounting brackets and had to cut the bumper(s) for it all to fit properly. Unfortunately, I didn't take photos but I used the drawings from this site to figure out where to cut: https://www.bmwpartspros.com/oem-par...JjaCBSZXN1bHRz I measured from, as a reference point, the closest hole (for one of the screws) on the outside of the triangular cutout. I just sketched it out on the inside of the bumper and checked it several times before making the cut, taking care to stay away from the very front of the bumper. From experience, I can definitely say you have to make the cut that large for the bracket to fit properly. Also, discard the bottom front lower trim support (it's the long, felt-covered piece that is below the radiator). The splitter and brackets won't fit correctly if you try to keep it in. I also used 3M double sided tape on the edge of the splitter. I really can't tell if it's used on the CS, but I wanted the extra adhesion and it fills the gap nicely so dirt doesn't get between the bumper and splitter. |

I'm interested to know if BMW were manually cutting the Competition bumpers for the CS (just like anyone has to do if mounting the CS splitter on the Comp) or if they had custom-moulded bumpers for the CS not requiring any modification. Anyone knows or has taken a pic of the front bumper with the splitter off?

Thx man, appreciate it. Not clearly showing the cut-out area, but I can just about make out where it seems to be cut into the bumper.
Out of interest, what treatment were you applying to the bumper and splitter? |

Thanks for your pic’s. They did help me with orientation. Just enough to get my bearings and develop a template. I will do a fitment here in a few days and advise how it turned out. I have attached my pic’s as I took the dimensions and converted it to US spec’s. Here are pic’s of my progress. The next set will be marking the template on the bumper and then using a dermal tool to make the cuts. Last edited by Kazhul; 04-06-2024 at 09:38 PM.. |

Okay, sorry for the delay…but work comes first. I was able to review the instructions and design a template for the sections which need to be cut out. I test fitted them using standard 8x11 paper trimmed down the template and then fitted them to the car. The pic’s here show where I positioned the template with the 10mm area to avoid. I aligned my spoiler back up to ensure the area I was going to cut would not be exposed. As you can see we don’t have any template showing and from behind you can also see the area being cut is in direct line with where the mounts would go. So, i put 2 red dots on each side to cover the area NOT to cut and then began cutting with my dremel. I cleaned up the area with the sandpaper to clean this up. I tried with no luck to “Just see” if the bracket would slide in and it’s a ‘NO-Go’ don’t try to force it or you will bend the bracket. The metal supports the carbon spoiler only. I will update this post with additional pic’s after I get more time. I will need to remove the front bumper and insert the brackets also the support tab bolt that it mounts to is 10mm, not in the instructions that I saw.

You could just done the RW Carbon splitter and been done in 20 minutes. It even has the mount location for the CS brackets.

If it has the mount locations but doesn't come with mounts then what's the point? The mounts are to reinforce the bumper so when you're going triple digits the lip doesn't shear off or crack the plastic bumper. Drilling alone doesn't add rigidity

It can be used to replace the OEM splitter. It is plenty rigid with the screws and the factory bolt locations. The factory mounts on the front will guarantee you rip the front of the bumper when you hit something. I have no problems at triple digit speeds.

Well, the work is finally completed. I would like to thank FaRKle0079 for the masterclass bumper removal. Once off I removed the support trim and began to figure out how it installed? First I thought the whole mount slid into the bracket support, but after studying it… and looking close at it.. it actually slides on, that should have been in the instructions as I believe knowing this I could have installed the mounts without removing the front bumper, but I’m glad I did, years of crud needed to be cleaned and debris was falling everywhere. After that it was simply slip it on and mount the trim again and install the bumper back. Finally, for anyone attempting this DIY… decide on a good 8hrs. Designing the cutouts and back and forth test fitting. You won’t regret it.

I don't know why you would do this.
I have two spare OEM splitters but prefer to just run the CSR plastic version. At least they are only a grand. It looks great though, cheers, and thanks for the writeup! |

I left the felt lower trim piece off the last time I installed the splitter. I could never really get the splitter to sit properly with it on. The directions do say to leave it out.

When I looked at it, the felt support actually helps support the lower bumper assembly when installed. The mounts have very little impact in the area in question. It all went back together with zero issues. The installation instructions are a good starting point but in no way perfect. I tried to vet out all the issues with pictures so we all had a real install experience. I felt this was the cleanest approach for the spoiler installation.

Oddly enough, whenever I tried to include the flet piece it would force the front of the bracket down too far to get splitter to fit right. I didn’t want to force it so I left it off and then it fit perfectly. Not sure about it, but I did spend a bit of time spitting out all kinds of expletives. This write up would have been immensely useful. If there is a next time, I’ll be able to reference this. Thanks!
