UPDATE: again it's in the shop with an active CEL for the expansion valve 'A' is OFF - yes I bought an OBD2 reader.
We'll see what they say - they are opening a case with BMWNA (Corp) to get insight into why I'm still getting this error. Anyone ever find out why these valves don't open/close when they are requested to by the A/C system logic?

Also I opened a case w/ BMWNA myself, waiting on my case manager to call. I got a confirmation email and called them after 4 days. They said to wait 7 business days. I know this drill - if you know my profile, I had a 2021 45e sit in the shop almost 5 months. BMWNA bought that back.

UPDATE:
so BMWNA Exec Level rep has contacted me. My car is still in the shop as they wait to replace the Expansion Valves again - this will be my third set of valves.

Almost never in the first 800 miles (thats where my odo is) - thats all I have been using for now to break in the main engine. However, I find when I charge it at 16A and 100% (both levels are adjustable in this vehicle) that might be when it trips the CEL. First couple of days I charged at 10A to 90%. But then when I bumped it up to full charging, it threw the CEL. So when I got the car back from the shop, I backed off again back to 10A and 90% for about 5 days, then when I put it at full, next day it tripped the CEL. Speculative observations.

I know r33_RGSport never charges his and he doesn't get the CEL anymore. I'm beginning to think it has more to do w/ the charging and not the driving.

In my understanding, it is something with the cooling system to cool down the battery during charging or usage.
I also believe that it is tied down to the chargecooler system.
I will do more research when I get a chance.

I got bored couple weeks ago and was charging it on 120V for 2 days from low charge to full charge. And not long after, during pre-conditioning, my AC stuck cold even when temp was set at 80F+.
It fixes itself after power cycle.

I think you two are onto something. I have stopped charging Or driving in EV only modes after mine was fixed. No CEL since

yes, for sure. RG states the case better than I did, but when I was talking about a failure during charging or driving - I was definitely referring to the cooling system failure - ie, the valve(s) don't open to cool the battery.

I've been on the phone w BMWNA and they are asking what I want to do now. And I don't know. I'd hate to swap out the car, I just paid a huge amount of money to paint correct and apply ceramic coating along w/ the window tints. Geez, do I get that money back ?
Anyway - I should get my car back within 24 hours as they are almost done with the repairs this afternoon.

I would probably walk away and find another at a steep discount to make up for outlay for paint correction and ceramic…

If solely related to the charging, shouldn’t there more instances of this? I realize that maybe there have been, and they just aren’t forum members. I fully plan on utlizing the electric only while sitting in the car waiting on my kids (instead of idling and wasting gas), which will require charging. If simply charging the HV battery is too much for the XM to handle, I am going to be very annoyed at purchasing it. Which charger are you using? The one BMW provided or a third party one? (Asking because Porsche shat the bed with the PMCC and had to issue recalls to downgrade the EVSE capability. Was causing CELs in some people’s Cayennes and Taycans)

I am using a third-party 240V charger with a NEMA 14-50 plug. Keep in mind this is the same charger I used for all my hybrids. If you look at the G05 forum and read about the 50e errors - there are many similar. Currently my car is finishing up the repairs today and the service center will charge the car and run it 100 miles before giving it back.
I might just throw my hands up with BMW hybrids if this one craps out as well.

Hoping they figure it out for you, so frustrating. We went with the XM because the '24 Cayenne E Hybrids are having tons of issues. To the point they have to re-homologate the 9Y0.2 for most of the EU and US as they have changed so much of the software. My '20 Cayenne E Hybrid never had an issue, guess we will see if my '24 XM works well or not (only about 100 miles on it right now).

I charge mine every day (using an Tesla wall charger and an J1772 adapter) and leave the charger plugged in when it’s home and not used. Never had a CEL in 2500 miles. I drive in EV mode most mornings to school drop-off and to/from work.

How many miles are you averaging a day in EV mode?

I am thinking that is not enough driving/charging per day to heat battery up if that is the hypothesis for this CEL.

That’s about 70% of the range I usually get. You think you have to empty the battery to see this issue? I’ve only done that 2-3 times in the time I’ve had the car.

This has been argued and discussed so many times on the iX part of the forum, yet I’ve never seen anyone produce so much as a single piece of BMW documentation describing these sequences..

At the end of the day, it does not really matter as much on the XM like it does on the full EVs. I’ve only had to reboot mine a couple of times on my XM as opposed to at least five times a week on the iX. There were a lot of problems in early 2023, but they worked most of them out. The EV’s are far more reliant on the head unit due to so many sensors. I blame most of my issues on the older head unit that was on the original 2023s.

Happy rebooting!
Last I checked nobody in these forums I’ve seen so far has the equivalent BMW training. I try to provide some of you on these forums with useful information and you try to tell me I’m wrong as if you know more. I only post information if it’s factual. And I will also only argue with you about something if I know I am 100% correct. Would a document make you happy?

Your guess is as good as mine but I do feel it’s when the battery temps rise…..

I live in Utah and I got the XM late November which means it’s been pretty cold. With summer and warmer weather around the corner, let’s see what happens
