b5 s4(k04s,tune,etc) vs. 335i AT (helix,downpipes)
Who will win. I was in a parking lot with my cousin the other night and was approached to run it. I dont have these engine mods yet but they will be on by the summer. And his k04s only have about 200 miles on them so the tune is off. So we both arent ready yet. But do you guys think i have a chance? He is an audi tech so the tune is going to be perfect and he has all supporting mods. I think this will be a great race even if i lose. Input please anything is appreciated.
FYI love the car it looks great and also love all audis esp the b5 s4s

What about the VIP Tuning 335 on stock turbo's!!
Aftermarket on the 335 and it's over. B8 S4 will be a cooler car though!

You may need a little bit more to hang with it. But if he only has 200 miles on his turbos you may be waiting a while. (that is if he cares enough to let them break in) I am not too sure of the helix software but there is only so much it can do. I have gotten to run a couple b5s with full bolt ons and a tune on stock turbos and I put them far in my rear view but with K04s you may be biting off more than you can chew.

There is no "break in" on a turbo. If you have enough friction to require a "break in" the turbo is already toast.

If he is tuned you will need Procede v2, downpipes, intake, LSD, tires.

i had a 2000 b5 S4 with everything other than the turbos done. all i can tell you is with the K04's, fmic, proper fueling and timing, they are a beast. conservative tunes with feuling are around 375-385hp at the wheels. there were also a few people putting the k16 (RS6 ) comompressor wheels in the K04 housings with custom tunes, who would walk all over tuned 996tt.
go to audiworld.com and www.s4biturbo.com you will get some good info what you are up against. and for whats its worth, if you try to take him from the line at dead stop....honestly u are just wasting your gas. I really do love the 335, but the bs S4 tuned is no joke.

Are you joking, if the S4 is running race gas with the Ko4 upgrade he is def going to smoke u.........AWD + 500 hp and tq = the 335i getting beat...........
APR: This ultimate turbo system upgrade is now available for the 2.7T cars. This kit is capable of 447 horsepower and 467 foot-pounds of torque at the flywheel on 93 octane gas, while retaining stock-like drivability That is on 93 octane only with race gas he is pushing 500+ hp and tq, now if he got his car custom tuned with the new turbo kit, you have no chance in a 1/4 mile race, those cars are in the 11's with the proper modifications............ |

Keep in mind this car has been out since 2000 and has had a full 7 years of R&D and just give it 7 years for the 335i's and I will tell you there will be kits out to produce more power than the audi s4's 2.7t's

with just the Attache you will be running mid-high 12's at 110+mph on pump gas and street tires and 113+mph on race gas(96+ octane), this performance will put you squarely with very well tuned and modified(turboback exhaust-intercooled-tuned) K03 cars. Anthony's(spartan) 2000 S4 held the KO3 record for about 5 years 12.4@113mph but he had a ton of mods that we custom designed for his car as well as a bunch of AWE parts-FMIC/ramair/turboback/GIAC X chip, many of those parts wound up on Marc's stripped Nogaro S4 mentioned earlier in the thread
Now onto K04's my old S4 was the worlds first in the 11's and the first over 120mph trap speed. these times were run about 2+ years before anyone else caught up, but those performance figures high 11's at 120+mph are standard now for a well running KO4 car. for the 335i to run those times it will definitely need intercooler, intake, downpipes, custom tune, very good drag radials or slicks and a good driver. I plan on doing just this in the next month or so just waiting on the Riss Racing downpipes as we have designed the rest of the parts at Helix(FMIC-Intake-and we'll custom tune), once this simple bolt on upgrade path is completed I will bring my car to the next level (Improved turbocharging system) and I can assure you it won't take 6+ years to gain stage 3+/Garrett S4 performance levels on the 335i. |

I hope you have as much success with tuning the 335 as you did with the S4. It was a car considered a bench mark for many and the goal of all the other audi for many years. side note, did you ever ride in the ASP car? any plans to aim for that in the future?

no never ran in a garrett based S4 but have been in turbo vipers and upgrade turbo porsches as well as 10 second sport compact drag cars---My Butt Dyno is well calibrated We have BIG plans for the 335i in the power department, in the next few weeks Helix will be making some product announcements for the Intercooler, BOV kit, meth injection kit as well as the Intake we have designed(some of the local guys have seen the working prototypes) Once I recieve the Riss downpipes and tune for those we will move to the next level that will yield 400++++whp figures We already have a solid plan and parts list to accomplish this and as i said it will take months rather than years Last edited by TurboBullett@Ambient Thermal Management; 12-25-2007 at 10:15 AM.. |

this is great news from helix and a great thread lOl. So from the man himself my helix/dps will definalty be high 12 car correct? Now if i go further(which i want to do) and get a fmic, intake, exhaust, lsd, drag radials i should be in the 11s?

I'd say lower 12's......11's are possible though as proved by VIP.

i also would like to see a lot more runs against modded B5 S4s. It's the perfect benchmark. I had 2 and my last was a stage II+. Stock I think the 335i is already close to a stage II powerwise. But traction wise, no, unless it is an xi. Maybe a LSD would bring the 335i back on par.
With an intercooler and DPs my 335i feels faster to me than my S4, but until I dyno or can race the guy I sold my S4 to, I won't know. K04 stage 3+ is (still?) the holy grail for B5 S4 tuning. Granted the cost to get that stage is about 8 grand for the bigger turbos, fueling, install and whatever else you throw in there. But that's about as far as you get with an S4 without getting extreme. It will never be a TT Supra. Wasn't worth it for me, putting that much into a 7 year old platform with 60-80k already on the odometer. But meanwhile Audi dropped turbo's, so there was no upgrade path for me or any other B5 owners. TTurbobullett, I am glad you are in the 335i camp now! You had the right approach with the S4, looking forward to what you bring to 335i tuning. |
