Auxiliary Audio Input Jack

Short question:

It's mentioned by several sources that the X7 comes with such a jack - but where is it located? Is it in the center console under the armrest and if so, is there also a USB-port for power?

On my Q7, I have these ports right there and with the hotspot, I'm using my Alexa that way (data: hotspot. Power: USB. Audio: Aux-jack).

Although BMW announced Alexa-integration, to my knowledge, it's still not offered so I was wondering if I could do in the X7 what I'm doing on my Q7 right now if necessary.

Thanks!

I couldn't find an aux jack, but there are 3 USB-c ports, 1 USB-a port and 1 HDMI input. I have the rear seat entertainment package so not sure if all models have similar ports in the back.

Thanks for checking!

I assume there is nothing in the glovebox, either.

I would prefer BMW's Alexa-integration into the system anyway so I hope they introduce it shortly.

And doesn't the audio system accept audio through the USB port(s), including syncing with an iPod or iPhone, with album art and metadata?

I am pretty sure BMW is doing away with the 3.5mm Aux port plug as most modern devices, in particular phones, don't use them to transfer data and music between the device and the car - Bluetooth and/or USB is the medium of choice. Also, CarPlay in BMWs uses WiFi as well for the data connection.

In the few X7's I have looked at, including one I test drove recently, I did not see an aux port. My F80 M3 has an Aux port, but it is not needed. Either Bluetooth or USB is all that is needed. It is not surprising that BMW is dropping the Aux port going forward. Hell, even the new iPhones don't have 3.5 mm plugs anymore - and we all know how BMW has biased their ICE towards Apple over Android.

Well, that's what you might think, right?

Once BMW integrates Alexa into the vehicle's system, you don't need to hook it up anymore. Right now, you can use one of the USB-ports to power Alexa.

However, I don't believe you can transfer Alexa's Audio via Bluetooth. Although Alexa Dot has Bluetooth built in, it is NOT compatible with systems that require a PIN.

My Audi requires a PIN and if I'm not mistaken, BMW requires it, too.

That's why I am forced to use the 3.5mm input on my Audi right now.

I read in a recent article that Alexa will be rolled out on vehicles with the new 7.0 system by the end of 2019 so that should take care of it.

Funny enough, it is stated that the newest system (7.0) will take the longest to be enrolled.
