Just for reference.
Exactly. This sums it all up.
The press release states that the middle row can be moved 5.7 inches fore-aft, so depending on what they use as their baseline measurement, you could have nearly 6 more inches than the stated legroom.

it's standard protocol to list max legroom in specifications.

Why? The GLS, Q7 and XC90 all fit the bill if the X7 doesn't. I think the 11.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the 3rd row is on the smaller side when the others have 16, 14.8 and 15.8 respectively.
Q7 and XC90 have more legroom on all rows and more cargo space?

BMW has knocked the ball out of the park with the X7. Everything they have been promising is there. Beautiful exterior and well crafted interior, hi tech displays, and quick to boot ( am really surprised with the 5.8 0-60 time, even for the base engine. And the third row seems very spacious, unlike the GL or Q7.

Time to save up for this one

No, that's kind of the point. Each manufacturer chose to emphasize different areas. The Q7's 1st and 2nd rows are excellent, but really sacrificed the 3rd row for it. The XC90 has more leg room in the front row but has a slightly smaller 2nd and 3rd row than the X7 but made the best use of cargo space. Both the Q7 and XC90 are shorter by 3.7" and 8.4" respectively as well. All depends on what you're looking for and it's nice that we more options from more manufacturers now.

This is a key question I have. As others note here, this kind of situation usually means that the 37.4 inch 2nd row legroom can be moved UP by 5.7 inches forward. The furthest aft it would go is the 37.4 inch position.

So I'm gonna have to wait until March to see it in person and make sure. But man, this is a real bummer.

SERIOUSLY? 9 full inches longer than an X5, and only 0.2 inches more legroom in the 2nd row than the X5? This is not a 7-series SUV.

I just don't care enough to hate it. If I'm spending this level of money on a large SUV, regardless of how much money I have, or will ever have, I'm looking at a full size RR or probably something useful like the new Expedition or Navigator.

This. This vehicle is not for people who were hoping they’d optimize interior space in this form factor
