Mine is stuck at the dealership which is so frustrating. It arrived the morning of the lockdown.

Mine have to be delivered in Munich, then loaded on trucks and delivered to AZ. Taking into consideration that all borders are not closed, but taking a lot of time to pass, it will get at least 1 month.

My car was supposed to be built on Monday March 30th and completed Wednesday April 1st (today), but they shut down factory on Sunday 29th, so my car hasn't been built yet.

Curiously another X7 my dealer ordered, that has a production # one after mine, has been built and shipped to the port (in Southern CA) but since the port is closed it's going to sit there at the port for a while.

Not sure why a priority 1 (customer sold) car didn't get built, but a dealer stock car that was submitted a few days later did get built first.

my only guess is that it probably was a base model with little to no options and it was quicker to produce because it is not effected by shortages in parts or longer build times.

It's a 40i Msport with MSRP just over $88k. Mine is non-sport with MSRP just under $90k. So not a huge difference. Also that one had the extended leather which is supposed to have an additional 10 week wait, while I just got regular leather (didn't want to wait 10 more weeks).

Peculiar. I don't know, I was simply throwing out a theory but I guess it is not plausible.

Yup, SA doesn't know why either. He said my order being priority 1 should've been built first before the Priority 3 order.
But either way it's not making it's way to the dealership anytime soon, the port is closed due to the SIP.

I ordered my wife's tanzanite blue m50i on February 15 and it was delivered to the dealership on March 29. Delivery is now stalled at their lot until they reopen in May. I suppose the only possible benefit is that we can take advantage of what I would expect would be improved incentives released by BMW next Monday.
We are going to go see her car this weekend. This is so odd. I haven't approached this aggressively yet, but it seems strange that there isn't some mechanism by which we can close on this vehicle.

I am in the exact same boat. My car arrived on the 24th, the day the UK went into shutdown. I was told that because of social distancing nobody would be able to work on the car. I have read that other dealerships are honouring previous sales whenever possible and doing a deliver and disinfect service so maybe that could still happen. But to be honest I doubt it. looks like a longer wait. But there is so much bigger problems in the world that I wouldn't go about any aggressive approaches.

Are the Boston dealers completely closed? Here in CA, the sales dept is closed to walk in sales but they are doing online sales and deliveries. They do paperwork by mail/email and will deliver the car to your house then remove the plastic wrap on the seat/steering wheel etc and leave the keys in the car and walk 10 to 20 ft away then call you to come out and take delivery of the car. No direct physical contact between the SA and buyer. But still selling and delivering cars despite the shelter in place order.

But they can only do this with cars sitting on their lot. No dealer trades, and no new cars coming from port since the port is closed.

I think this is likely. Even though the two vehicles in question are comparative, and it appears the customer vehicle should have been produced first, I think there's lots of unforseen details going on at the plant. Particularly with the way BMW does Just-In-Time logistics supply delivery. Very possible that they started running out of certain parts in stock at the factory as they approached the shutdown, even mainstream base-model parts, and they had to produce vehicles with specs aligned to what they had on hand.

I would imagine we will see very similar situations when the plant reopens, where several parts for particular configurations just aren't in stock right away, resulting in productions delays. Speculating further, this may affect configuration, availability, and pricing of MY2021 models as well.

Yes, the dealership I am using is completely closed. We went to their lot yesterday just to see our vehicle and there wasn't a soul on either their service lot or at the primary sales location. I assumed service would still be open but it seems they are operating on an as-needed weekday only basis. We didn't even get to see my wife's x7as they stored it inside. I'm glad it is safe but I was counting on a live viewing to carry me through until the closing. Let's hope they are able to reopen in May.

Factory closure extended to end of month

Looks like those of us waiting for our cars to be built will have to wait a bit longer. BMW announced today factory closure extended to end of April.

I foresee quite a few special orders cancelling as by the time you get it it will only be a couple of months before the 2021s can be ordered. Who wants to lose 25% of value in just a 2-3 months?

When should you be able to order 2021 X7?

2021's were expected to start production in Aug/Sep. All bets are off now with the crisis.

Has anyone heard if Spartanburg plant is still planning to reopen on May 1st as planned? My wife's M50i was scheduled for a March 31st completion date, but that obviously didn't happen. Still have some time, but getting a little nervous as we have to return her current lease on July 1st. Thanks-

BMW will extend your lease as long as you ‘order’ a car before July 1st. Your ok.

Thanks - but unfortunately it's not a BMW lease. Maybe I can negotiate a loaner since I have one on order that has started production.
