X7 M50i Car and Driver Long Term Tester Review + Towing Report

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Was looking at C&D online and noticed a new entry in their long term X7 M50i. I didn't see this posted here, and it is about towing so thought some may find it interesting. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...y-maintenance/

Our 2020 BMW X7 M50i Pulls Its Weight, Literally and Metaphorically

The X7 continues its near-perfect streak of accolades from our staff, even with a car and trailer in tow.

Seems almost poetic the BMW is towing a Aston. Ain’t that a real world truth.

It's nice to see they've had it 9 months, nearly 25k miles and virtually trouble free. That's always a good sign.

Excellent article. Gas mileage, small issues going on, winter tire talk, and good talk about the stealth hitch. Seems to be the best solution for those that don't get the factory trailer hitch.

I'm pretty bummed about the towing package losing the foot control for the rear tailgate. I have a M50i on order and just requested removal of the tow package from my order. Hopefully I can figure out a way to gain access to the towing software changes after installing the stealth hitch.

Wow, so you're not seeing 20s on the highway. Low MPG doesn't bother too much around the city, but this will be a road trip vehicle for us and I thought it would at least get low to mid 20s cruising.

Anyone else?

I have a 40i and don't have as many miles but I'm only seeing 16-17mpg around town and 22mpg highway over the last 2k miles.
I did test a stretch of 200 miles at 65mph and it showed 23mpg, but as soon as I go back to my normal 75-80mph it goes down to 22mpg or just below 22mpg.
Hoping it will improve in a few thousand miles.

Not sure about the 40i as I think the mild hybrid took this option away, but there's an Econ mode right? Is anyone using that?

I had it in my XC90 and it helped gain 2-3MPG.

Not a huge deal for me, but would like to get at least what is advertised by BMW...low 20s for highway.

I don't use the eco mode, I don't like the start/stop system and eco mode activates it too often. I'm in comfort or adaptive most of the time.
I don't think 16-17 around town is too bad, My wife's X3 with the 4 cylinder gets 17-18 around town so the significantly heavier X7 isn't doing too bad in that respect. I do wish to see it get closer to the rated 25mpg highway though.
I've only got 2k miles on it so far. In past BMW's I've found the mileage tend to improve once you put 10k-20k miles on it.

Wow. I have the X7 40i and I get around 20 to 22 around town and 25 to 26 on the freeway driving 75-80MPH.

I live in a more rural area but still have stop and go in town. There shouldn't be that big of a difference on the freeway though. My X7 gets better gas mileage than my 2013 Toyota Highlander got. Both around town and on the freeway.

What's your average speed around town? Mine is upper teen or lower 20's. Lots of stop and go and elevation changes.

How many miles do you have on the car? I expect mileage to go up once I put more miles on mine.

IMO, I think that belongs to the Lincoln Navigator.

Every BMW is trouble free for the first 40-50k miles, then the fun starts.

Nice little update, hopefully they get those drive mode switches fixed, and hopefully they don't break any more pedals!

Please elaborate.

Keep in mind, things change over time. Previous history with BMW, from what I've heard, substantiates your claim. However, please provide evidence to support your statement with 2019 model years and beyond.
