Smoking Tire Review - The BMW Alpina XB7 Isn't an M-Car, And That's For The Best

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
New review by TheSmokingTire on the Alpina XB7.

He does some canyon carving at a pretty decent pace in an SUV as large as this Alpina. He conclusion is pretty much that it's a fabulous vehicle and well worth the money!

Just finished watching his video. Very nice review. He liked the car very much in at the end he said 156k yes is allot of money but is a great value because you get allot of car. Overall he seemed to love it. I would love to see him do a review of an m50i in comparison to the xb7. In fact he said maybe one day he’ll get an m50 to review.

"This steering wheel has capacitive touch buttons" - what? You'd think he knew how Alpina shifter buttons functioned. He appeared to be pressing on the metal + - labels, not the actual shift buttons.

The XB7 deserves a professional review that actually knows the vehicle inside and out. Some guys casual approach of a vehicle he knows little about and general opinion doesn’t cut it with a $150k vehicle.

No, its a heritage thing from Alpina as they has always used buttons on the steering wheel.

Love what Alpina did with the x7. Steep price tag but still wouldn't mind having one in the garage

That goes for any YouTuber. It's about views, likes and comments. They don't care about the quality of the actual review.

So many of these "reviewers" are like they showed up to the dealership and asked if they could have any car keys for 1 hour in exchange for a plug in their review. Its so sad because its like the only qualification to review a car these days is they somehow got the car keys from someone and have a phone camera.

It's easy to spot. YouTubers show up by the dozen, and they all get some time to "review" the car. Mobile phone, or a buddy with a DSLR will all film at some cute "artsy" angles and ramble off stats. They will all release their little videos at the same time, all with the same car, at the same dealership, with the same background.

Just remember we're not the target audience though: it's likely teenagers watching YouTube out of boredom, wanting to see "cool car videos".

The problem is these self claimed experts cant even read or learn the specs or even understand the basic controls. They fumble around even lowering a rear seat or opening up a window.

Lol relax, he can review whatever he wants. He drives much more expensive cars and a large variety at that. His opinion is very valuable and more so than a bmw expert could ever have.

Really? I dont think we were specifically talking about this guy but the hordes of youtube car reviewers in general. This guys review was sloppy and it looks like he pumps these reviews out in volume to keep his channel a full time gig which might indicate he doesnt spend much time learning about the vehicle.

Imagine considering a vehicle based on what a YouTuber says.

I believe he owns a collector vehicle storage facility in Santa Monica, and can comfortably support himself without YouTube? He also writes for MotorTrend, and has been reviewing cars for nearly 20 years at this point. Luxury SUVs aren't in his wheelhouse, but I definitely respect his input on how the car drives. If you want to learn every "quark and feature" there's always Doug DeMuro, or you could just read the manual for the car. I'd say this review is more for entertainment than anything else. Anyone actually interested in the car could watch Matt's review, see he liked how it drove, then go to a dealership and be shown every detail of the car and experience it for themself.

Not a huge fan of Farrah, but he's been an auto journalist for over 25 years and is well respected in their world.

Plus he really knows how to romp a vehicle through those canon roads, so his feedback during the drives is pretty knowledgeable.

Romping for sure. I'm impressed with his causal commentary while burning through those turns

I don’t understand the negativity here regarding this review. The guy liked the car and gave a favorable review. Like some posters said above he’s been reviewing cars for over 25 years. Has worked for motor trend and other publications. Knows how to drive decently well and gives a pretty decent review of how a car drives handles. I like his reviews and again he loved the xb7. Where’s the issue?

I didn't intend to trash the reviewer but his review of the XB7 revealed a lack of knowledge of this specific Alpina. The most in-depth and accurate review of the XB7 I've seen to date is this one, take some time to watch as this guy knows his stuff and explains why it cost $30K more than a standard X7.

I am surprised that the design of this car is simple compared to the other vehicles that BMW created.
