Snow Tires - Factory 22's and unique tire size

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Looking for some guidance. Finally talked my wife into ditching her Escalade and going to the X7. Order placed, hope to take delivery in November. We live in Southwest Michigan - snow belt - feet and feet of snow every winter.

We always run a dedicated snow. I have 285/45R22 Blizzak DM-V2's that we mount and dismount each year. Love these tires in the snow. This set of 4 have only run one season on the Escalade. X7 (M50i) is coming with the 22" Y-spoke staggered wheels. Wheel width is in range for both front and rear for this tire size, but question is will it fit and will it freak out the computers? It's 1.2 inch diameter bigger than 315/35R22 on back. This is by far my easiest and cheapest option.

Alternatively I have picked out a set of 20" wheels and DM-V2's in 285/50R20's from TireRack that should work fine too and I can have them within a few days so availability is not an issue unless brake clearance will cause an issue with 20's on the M50i. Not finding a lot of info in my searches.

Thoughts on the 285/45R22's?

Tire size comparator says 30.7" tall vs your tires are 32.1" tall.

I honestly I think they will work just fine. The abs doesnt know how tall the tire is, the sensor only detects speed. Your speedo will be off 2-3 mph. So 60 will be actually 62.7 mph. Which is perfect since bmw already under indicates your speed by 3mph. Lol.

I had blizzacks on my 50i, that were an 1" shorter because like you, I had then from a previous vehicle. Worked fine.

Also, make sure you look at the upper control arm clearance. I haven't looked under mine yet. Sometimes they curve that upper control arm out over the tire and it cant take much taller tire. Not sure. Need to look under mine.

Edit... so I just checked. Mine only have 1" clearance to the control arm on front. So that means you will only have a .3 - .4 clearance on that control arm. Which will work, but that's pretty close.

I'd give it a try and raise the height of the suspension with the adjuster.

I just bought this combination. Would this be sufficient? Any thoughts or input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes those should work great. Never run the LM001 Run flats, I have a 20" combo with DM-V2's in my shopping cart just in case I get contrary news back from deal on 285/45 22's.

Awaiting research from dealer - have some time before M50i and snow get here...

I purchased this set because the wheels were quite inexpensive and somewhat reliable granted I only would be using them for about 4 months a year

FWIW, I talked to the Alaska BMW dealership today. Was curious if BMW was shipping X7's with any different tires for far northern sites. But no... just the usual 21 and 22 inch options, with all season and even performance tires. The dealer emphasized either using all-seasons year-round, or purchasing a winter tire package set as well.
