Racing a cardboard box on wheels isn't too impressive.
I think the GLS63 would be better competition.

I'd prefer the G wagon, gun to my head. You can feed a family of 12 with the size of the X7 grills.

I love it, I'm happy about the result, and I'm still a big stupid fan of the G wagen in spite of how stupid they are.

unfortunately G wagon will be the cheaper vehicle to own despite the bigger up front nut. The way they hold their value is bonkers.

I love the X7 and think it beats the socks off of the direct competition but if I didn't need a third row there is no way I'd pick an X7 over the G. Its polarizing but the car still has something special to it that others don't.

Well on the bright side at least the engine in the G-wagon hasn't gone through a decade or more of revisions trying to address below-average reliability because of leaking valve stems, timing chain failure, coolant system failures, numerous oil feed line revisions for the turbos.

they are cool, I posted a while back in one of the threads we had one traded in a while back and drove it for a few days and it def gets some looks but for me I wasn't a big fan I did however really like the way the doors close haha felt really tough! Wonder how much of a hit the resale value will be on the older model now that there are all the improvements inside and the few outside?

In my town of Solvang which is SUPER small (less then 6k people) there is at least 100 of them. Shoot there is 4 on my block alone lol. In LA area they are everywhere. I didn't know the resale on them was as high as you guys are stating ill have to look into them. Dont know much about them besides the one we took in on trade when I drove for a few

There is the “Jeep Wrangler” resale equation that keeps their resell value so high simply because of where it fits into the obtainable price range for the average consumer. I have a feeling the new Bronco will pouch a lot of upcoming sales from the Wrangler so their historical resale value will get challenged the next few years.
The G Wagon is really the German Wrangler that targets deeper pockets but deeper pockets have a lot more options to choose from. The luxury SUV market grew up and now there is so many other options than there was than even 5 years ago. The G Wagon in my area is always the 2nd or 3rd car in the garage to fill that “Euro Wrangler” niche. There are a lot of pre owned ones sitting on dealer lots in my little area so exclusivity isn’t close to what it was a few years back.

I won't comment on these silly "roll races" as it's irrelevant to anyone that would buy either of these vehicles. Might as well make a video comparing how many ice cream cones you can balance on the front seat.

Although I wouldn't call them a "dime a dozen", I see them much, much more often around compared to the X7. When I look at my street alone, there are a handful of new G63s, a Bentayga and a Cullinan. Not an X7 to be seen.

interesting, and agree, the luxury SUV market is dense no doubt these days. I am also curious to see how the bronco does, we will have to track that compared to jeep.

The G hits the spot for me. I'm still too young to be seen in a Luxo Barge.

I see g wagons everywhere too I meant the new model and how it sells for more used then new. There is a waiting list a mile long even a year after it was introduced

For my money no matter the race I'd take a new G wagon over an X7 any day. However, truth be told I don't need or like the massive 3 row SUV's

If I'm buying an suv it would be a Cayenne for handling and speed and a RRS for comfort and cruising

I don't understand which car enthusiast actually buys the Gelandewagen... I realize that it's the number 1 choice of Russian call girls in Dubai but other than that the continued success of this car confounds me.
Looks good and drives nice, bought it and love it. You certainly also need a sports car to scratch the itch of spirited driving.

Sounds like the perfect time to buy an X7 M50i to me.

The GWagen is nice, interior is well done and you are getting a hand assembled vehicle for $130k, which is a bargain for the effort that goes into them. They hold value amazingly well, 12 year old models going for 50% of MSRP is fairly common. All that said, I dropped my G550 allocation for a Cayenne, because no amount of engineering can make a G handle well. I don't need a 3 row vehicle, so didn't consider the X7, but depending on what they do with the X8, I may consider one (V8 hybrid would be perfect).

So you’d buy one of the continuously least reliable car brands for the last 20 yrs for comfort and cruising. Sounds like the answer to “What would a Kardashian do?”

Proof that there are a lot people out there that care about what their neighbors think about them more then making the more logical choice. Aka the social media generation.

The logical choice? This is a BMW forum. The logical choice would be getting a Highlander or Sienna and calling it a day.

I'm sure the Lexus forums say the same thing about our Bimmers as you just said of the RR. Everyone has their own preferences, I wouldn't assume reasons why others like certain cars just because you don't agree with their choices.

Here's a guy in the NE US who does a complete tear-down rebuild of military surplus G-wagons.

https://expeditionmotorcompany.com/b...d-wolf-074765/

I think they're awesome looking and come with some minor updates such as AC and brakes but still have the old Mercedes Diesel. If I had the money and the need for such a vehicle, I'd consider one of them.
