'24 X7 Stop Sale; airbag issue?

I had ordered a 2024 X7M60, late June build, and got notice on Saturday it had arrived at the dealer in Houston and we made arrangements for delivery tomorrow 7/5.

Just got an email from my SA that yesterday BMW issued a “Stop Sale Order” on all X7’s due to a faulty knee airbags and needing to replace them. Hence no delivery tomorrow.

Has anyone else heard about this? Appreciate its recent news but curious what this is about and if this resulted in a full recall of all the 2024 already sold? Wondering how significant this issue is.

Appreciate feedback from others.

There is no bulletin for the Knee Airbag. It affects G0x vehicles and very few of them. Of our inventory (including in transit), only one X5 was affected

Just picked up my June M60i last week. I haven't heard anything about an airbag issue.

My SA says he checks daily with his parts for the arrival of the corrected component but no details. This I assume the action called for is a local dealer repair.

I’m wondering how invasive this repair is and can they get it done without messing up the brand new interior.

Questioning if I want to take delivery all together over this so I’ve not been nagging them.

If it were me I would decline the delivery. Who knows what else you might wind up dealing with. Not to mention the possibility of scratches/scuffs/damages from them making the repair.

To each their own and this is something you will need to decide for yourself.

Any updates on this. I too was about to purchase an x7 at the dealership and the car was flagged for the stop sale.

I checked in with them yesterday and it appears they have no details on parts, fix needed, remedy, etc from their German reps.

Looks like there is a bulletin now but still no ETA on a fix. Fix will take an hour per this document but not clear how soon parts will be available.

Traded emails with my dealer today and no estimate for a repair time. I’ve asked about a new allocation to rebuild my order.

Link seems to not work for me. Even went to Google and typed it in and still says "Site Cannot be Reached" - DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

Anyone else having the same issue?

So after waiting 4 months my '24 X7 M60i is at the local port, but it impacted by this stop sale. So frustrating!

My sales rep that told me as of last Thu there is a remedy and BMW is shipping out parts. He also mentioned they will prioritize "sold" units and there is a chance I still get the car this week. Fingers crossed!

Edit: Was told today the parts need ship from Germany from a third party. Still no ETA.

SA emailed me today saying that the part is on its way (from wherever it’s coming from) and should be in by Thursday and he wanted to schedule a delivery appointment for Saturday. Stay tuned. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Thanks so much for the details. Please keep us posted if the part actually comes in and repair goes through.

I walked into my dealership yesterday and the SA told me they have 10 cars in total (other x's) that were waiting on this part. While they have the remedy they didn't have any update on part availability yet. Wondering if he's even checking per your update lol.

Generally, SA communication has been pretty terrible for us, especially given we're buying a pretty expensive car.

Just connected with my dealer and my parts for this still haven't arrived, but they did receive the parts for a couple of other cars today. Good news they are starting to have the parts delivered. Hopefully they have enough to ship timely for current demand.

Just curious, as my X5 has the same recall, did you get this repair yet? If so, did you experience any damage to the interior as part of the repair?

I spoke with the SA today and the repair was supposedly completed today and I’m scheduled for delivery Monday evening.

If there is damage to the interior I’ll not take delivery and will let you know.

Closing the loop. Took delivery last night June build X7. The airbag issue was resolved with part swap by dealer. The airbag is under the dash out of sight and while I layed on the ground and looked up under and looked closely for any damage that might have happened during the repair, I didn’t see any. Wife and I are both pretty detail about our cars and we spent prolly 30 min looking over the paint and “kicking tires” before I gave my SA the green light to proceed to paper work. Car is beautiful.

My dealer indicated they ended up having 8 units total, including mine (X5/6/7) affected by the airbag recall. They received the replacement parts for two, with mine being one of them. So for those still waiting it’s probably a few more weeks before dealers get the replacement part to remedy any of the impacted units.

Good to hear they resolved and hope you're enjoying the new ride! I'm still waiting for my deliver and has been kind of a cluster. Was told by my dealer that everything will be fixed at the last port before delivery to the dealer. It stayed there for weeks so figured that's why. Finally got to the dealer yesterday and the airbag wasn't fixed! A little frustrating after waiting for so long. Now they are saying probably early next week if the part arrives and then it's a quick fix so hope that happens.
