They do track what car gets what part, the brake booster likely has a serial number that will show up when the car is connected to the diagnostic head. Remedy not available means they dont have a fix. In this case parts are not yet available. Not sure if that means theres yet another booster part number being done. The booster is on its 3rd revision currently. It could also mean they have to build inventory of parts- in the us alone they have 80k cars to fix. In terms of production, thats almost 2 months of supply for Spartanburg, and i guarantee you they wont be shunting parts away from that so the ramp will take longer. They have a 6 week lead before they send the letters out, i suspect they wont have enough parts to complete the recall till summertime. If my booster fails and theres an extended wait for the parts i will likely pursue a trade assist.

The estimated failure rate is 1%. Anecdotally the majority of the failures happened fairly early in the life and seemingly it was very prevalent in the spring. I wouldnt be too concerned. But i would keep the possibility in mind and be ready to deal with the situation if it happens ( braking without power assist, which will require alot more force)

Someone tried a thread to see when the failure happened. The thread initially indicated early life (2k miles and under). Then others chimed in with higher mileage. I knew of the possible issue and still road tripped from Chicago to Connecticut last month. Hard to say if/when it may happen. I have almost 9k on mine and knock on wood- no issue yet. That said, we’ll use our other car exclusively until Tuesday. I’m not one to tempt fate.
I do hope they figured this out and fixed the booster. If it goes after the fix- I will do trade assist or consider the LX600. As much as I love the X7, this issue sounds scary. Oddly, when I tried googling about this I found info about a 2013 or 2014 bmw brake booster issue. So it’s not their first time having an issue with this part (disappointing). No idea how I got so lucky to be so early on the recall. Just glad to it will be dealt with shortly (and hopefully for good!). |

I spoke with a BMW rep and asked him if it was safe to drive. I have 3 young children who are in the x7 all the time and he basically said it was ok to drive but just to be careful. I'm surprised BMW would just let consumers keep using the vehicle knowing it could be dangerous if it does malfunction. We have 12k miles and haven't had a issue

![]() they dont have much of a choice, they need to come up with 80K replacement boosters above what they need for factory production (no way in hell would they pause factory production) if they tell everyone to park it for the amount of time it will take, they would need to buy back every single car. more than likely there will be no problem. i would just mentally prepare myself for what to do if it happens- it would be a loss of power braking, not braking completely, so you will need to apply much more pressure to the brakes to stop. the electromechanical parking brake will also engage.

My '24 production date was 2023-09-29 (delivered 10-05), when I check the recall site, it says no-recalls. I'm only at 1,300 miles now. Do '24 X7s have the brake-booster problems too or is it contained to '23s?

does anything show up here: https://bmw-recall-tool.netlify.app/ ? you also may have lucked out- the hard end date implies they did transition from a supplier or a part revision, your prod date is at the tail end of the affected range so you might have gotten lucky and gotten the revised part while both versions were in the supply chain

I called and spoke to my local SA today, and she said that there is remedy for repair or parts yet ( I figure as much). I asked her about my X7 that was in for brake booster malfunction in Aug 23 , to see if it was the same issue. What she said is the "The Integrated Brake (IB)" and "brake booster malfunction " are two different issues. Any truth to this? I was going to call another SA next week and see

Talk to a actual service advisor and not a scheduler per above this time and they said it’s for Brake modules/software.
Brake booster and integrate brake are not the same 😂 oops He thinks it’ll be a software grade though and the app will let you know when they have a remedy.

thats not what what the recall doc says Description of Problem The Integrated Brake (IB) system may not have been produced by the supplier according to specifications. If the IB system was not functioning properly, a warning lamp and message will be displayed in the instrument cluster. Safety Risk In some cases, there will be a reduction in power assist braking, which could lead to an extended stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash. The Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system may not function, which could also affect braking performance as well as vehicle handling and control. However, fully mechanical braking is not affected and, if the IB system is not functioning properly, the parking (emergency) brake will be automatically activated to aid in braking performance and help maintain vehicle stability and control. Description of Repair The Integrated Brake (IB) system will be replaced for free by an authorized BMW center which should take several hours. thats not the verbiage around a software update. also, in ISTA, the brake booster/ ABS/DSC unit is called the Integrated Brake. from a bmw press release: The new BMW X1 is equipped with an integrated braking system that delivers outstanding stopping power and superior pedal feel. This system brings together the brake activation, brake booster and braking control functions within a compact module. The required brake pressure is triggered using an electric actuator, an operating principle that generates pressure more dynamically and ensures significantly faster and more precise interventions by the DSC. The integrated braking system generates a degree of stopping power that is matched exactly to the driver’s inputs, while also providing excellent feedback via the brake pedal.

Ritu_o0o I believe that is the same. Orient included a good deal of info earlier in the thread as he found the recall.
I was called about it and then couldn’t find info. Almost feels like I was called just before it all went out (strange). Others have found the details and I checked my vin and the one you refer to is what comes up for me. |

May be worth calling and asking if they have the brake parts and having them do tha while it’s there to avoid having to go back. |

transmission failed. got drivetrain malfunction Jan 28th, towed to dealer. got the car back 2 days later (said it was software), less than 10 miles I got another drive train. Was able to drive to dealer the next morning. Just got transmission parts last night and hope to have it back by tomorrow after testing. They don't have the part for the brake recall unfortunately.
