Reaction when changing between 91 and 93
My have done this twice now, once I went from 93 to 91 , car backfired and almost died and I had to rev it to keep it alive. Became normal on the way home.
Today this happen again , I went from 91 to 93. Car died at intersection and had to rev it and then drove normal. My tune is ESS stage 2 , that should handle 91 fine. Any ideas ?

Autotune map? If so, you need to reset it if you change from 91 to 93 or 93 to 91...

Sounds like bad fuel to me too. The ESS S2 is tuned for 91, so it should be fine with 91 and anything above. Where are you getting your gas, and is that initial hiccup the only issue through the full tank of gas?

I'd also speculate bad gas. Going 91 -> 93 should not cause problems with a tune. The ECU had adjusted to 91 and 93 can take just as much timing as 91, so no problem.
Going from 93 -> 91 could cause issues until the ECU adjusted timing to prevent pre-ignition. The only way I can think 93 would cause problems is if the ECU is is too aggressive trying to adjust and then backs down. |

Where I am in California we have horrible crappy gas.
You mentioned that you ran 91 + e85 with the tune. Do you think I would be okay running a mix of e85 and 91 if I am completely stock? I looked at some other threads and they said it should be okay as long as I run a tiny amount of e85 just as an octane booster. (Like 14 gallons 91 (with 10% ethanol) and 2 gallons e85?) Did you ever try running the 91 with the e85 while stock? I would have never thought that increased the octane rating would cause the car to stall. |

Now it happen again , I filled it with premium gas from Shell and full tank, after my car wouldnt start , when I got it to run , it run only on few cylinders , got some codes too.
Im sure this got to do with my walbro pump , the soldering done on cables are solid , but the insulation done afterwards will allow fuel to contact bare metal where its been soldered. Is this alone case of my headache ? Bucket and pump is out of the car. Any pointers on what to use to seal my soldering properly ? If that is the reason for this . I only had problems with car starting when I have been filling gas. Never inbetween. And this was first time I filled tank completely. Other times max half tank. Faults from oil level too low is from after filling , engine was filled up with 1 liter oil earlier.
