DME failed and fixed

I bought my 2007 335i from an older couple a few months ago. It had 45k miles on it. Since then I have installed the JB+ and did the solenoid bypass. The car was even more awesome. I loved driving to work (45 miles one way). After a few weeks I had a check engine light and took it in to get looked at as I had yet to get a code reader. They replaced the low pressure fuel sensor and also fixed a line on my transmission. Soon after, I sold the JB+ and got a flash tune. It was smoother and could also read codes. I drove it around and after a couple of days I got a vanos code. I cleaned and swapped the vanos solenoids and took it out again. Immediately I got misfire codes. I replaced the spark plugs and started the car up. It ran terribly. I checked the codes again and got the dreaded 30BB.

I searched the forum and found a post with a DIY on how to fix it. Unfortunately it was beyond my capabilities as far as solder goes. Fortunately, I work with someone who used to repair satellite test equipment for Lockheed. He came over and spend about 2 hours fixing my DME (it was the #5 injector MOSFET that failed). The car ran, but not well after the fix. I then replaced all the coils and now it runs like new. I guess when the computer took a dump, it also took out a coil. I do have a spare injector on standby in case that also went bad, but so far it looks to be holding up.
At first I was a little intimidated about doing all that work myself, but it is all really easy and this forum has tons of useful information.
So thanks to everyone for posting their problems and fixes for us to learn from, it has saved my a few thousand dollars.
Also, if anyone has a DME failure like mine, my friend said he'd be willing to solder it for you.
Now, time to reinstall my flash tune and break something else...

Ah....the joys of diy's. You fix something, then something else goes wrong then fix again....it's an endless cycle. But so satisfying!

Yea, that's where I got most my info from.
Hoping this fixes everything so I can do a good write up on my flash tune. Need to find a Dyno in the area though.
