335d Carbon Cleaning DIY or write up?

Is there anything that outlines best way to do this? Looking to do DPF delete, EGR block off/by pass and software update. Not sure if the catch can will be needed at that point. Figured better get carbon cleaned with changes to other items all at the same time. Thank you!

Meth it Brice Hooper did the meth thing and his car is running great, dpf is a pain in the ass to remove but 2deerwhistlers can help you on this. Iaknown has the EGR plugs. I believe with the above actions a catch can would be overkilll

The SIB is "SI B11 03 14". It's been posted somewhere here or in bimmerfest. It requires a special walnut blasting wand. One of the techs that answers questions on the BMWCCA site says it's a b$%^& to do.

I just got a quote from my local shop this week at $1450 to do the whole job including sending out the intake to be cleaned, and doing the walnut blast.

This CBU situation is simply dire and gives me more of a reason to ditch it before my standard 50k warranty expires.

If it wasn't for the ridiculous costs of the CBU cleaning (looks like an extended warranty doesn't help), somewhat lazy transmission (8-speed ZF would of helped) and inability to delete EGR/DEF (due to my state's emissions law), this car would of definitely been a keeper.

I'm starting to hate this tranny, my pedal response is so slow its like the thing doesn't know im ready to go, It seems im resetting this damn tranny every week. lol

Exactly. I'm kinda baffled to how all the reviews that I've read before buying the car didn't mention once about the awkward tranny. Maybe the review models BMW handed out had a different one?

Resetting helps a bit but after it adjusts, D is still unusable, DS has a slight response lag when you want to gun it and manual shifting is the way to go but you suffer a bit with MPG. If anyone needs an Alpina flash, it's clearly us 335d owners. Alas, I don't expect to ever see one.

Does setting it through the obd and manually produce the same results, will it still revert back after using obd to reset, and if so how long will this last vs manually setting it...

Are you guys running tunes or JBD? I noticed a huge difference in the way the tranny operates between no JBD and 100% JBD. I attribute it to the JBD fiddling with the system as it goes back to shifting fine if I remove the JBD.

Strangely, I do not have a problem with this transmission. Drives fine, shifts fine and no lag. If I need a quick start or a burst, I flip into DS. Did the manual reset and it is better than it was though. No JBD here.

Mine has always shifted fine, I just feels so lazy with the throttle, it always revert back to that setting, lazy, when I reset it has a more direct quicker feel, more like DS, but then back to blaah...

Some did mention the awkward city performance.

Doing that gives you a jolt that you can't avoid, unless you have some kind of special throttle technique, because it starts in 1st gear and quickly wants to jump to 2nd. Doubt you start off to a smooth run unlike in manual shift mode.

I've never tried the OBD method and I have no clue how long it takes for the adapted settings to permanently set.

Im going to bmw Monday for this and my ac belt and my taillight to see what they say, SA also to me he has has 3 335d in for CBU cleaning, they are sending out the intake and walnut blasting in house with new DIESEL WAND, lol

Good god. Hope those poor souls are still within their 50k warranty period.

I just hope my CBU triggers soon then maybe, just maybe, I'll think about keeping it till 100k. Other than its terrible flaws, I still love all that stomach-churning torque!

I'm at 52k with a extended warranty, when he said their new DIESEL WAND, yes he did say that,

As mentioned all direct injection are victims of carbon build up. If you sell the 335d, what will you get?

All the nice new cars are direct injection.

I said it a million times, I'm not opposed to CBU in a DI car , I hate all the damage It does to everything else, that is what I want BMW to take care in every CBU case...the stuff it messes up...

Yeah, general direct injection CBU and our CBU are leagues apart. Walnut blast the intake valves vs blast the valves, head, ultrasonic wash the intake, blast egr valve, replace various sensors and injectors as required. Two issues with similar names and some similar symptoms but vastly different typical repair scopes. Now that its much more well documented and recognized though it should get a little less difficult to deal with. Should being the keyword
