CD Changer Changer
Does anyone wish they could just do away with the noisy multitude of buttons associated with the CD changer and delete the whole mess? I've been streaming my jams via Bluetooth courtesy of Rhapsody or Spotify for several years now. Should I need higher quality, I'll use the USB port. In a world where Apple has done away with disc drives all together, do I need one smack dab in the middle of the dash on my $75,000 car? Is there a slit in the middle of the giant iPad looking screen in the Tesla? If you asked my wife where my extensive collections of compact discs are currently residing, she'd likely shrug and say something like, "I don't know, probably with all your other useless shit in the crawl space. Check next to your baseball cards". Am I alone here?

What are these "noisy multitude of buttons" of which you speak? AFAIK, there is only one button dedicated to the CD/DVD player and it is for ejection. This one button and a slot. Hardly a "multitude", no?
Cheers.

I was just referring the the entire CD deck cluster that also includes the numbered buttons 1-6. Changer or not, it just feels outdated and kinda lame. Reminds me of how some folks pay 2-3G for a DVD package in their large family SUV's for low resolution, crap eyesores that date the vehicle and create a tremendous monstrosity in the headrests. This all in an era when one could purchase a dozen Kindle Fire tablets for an equal price. Hard to find much wrong with this car, but I'm writing a fat check, and simply wish the tech could match the engine.

Have we run out of things to complain about that now a 6 inch slit in the center console is getting its turn to be scrutinized?

There is hard drive in either system. It contains the GPS data, and can store music files.

Gosh if Steve Jobs could have done the interior of this car - talk about perfection! I just drove my friends Model S and the giant center screen is so damn sexy. I am all M3, but I just have a hard time understanding why it is that I could glue my iPhone 5 on my dash and have the most sophisticated, sexiest, highest resolution automotive stereo/dash interface that BMW has ever known. If I paid $1900 for fancy LED lights, couldn't that same amount of money do something to improve the overall stereo/idrive interface to bring it up to snub with today's relevant electronics? We live in a world where drones have been used to deliver cases of beer to ice fisherman in the middle of nowhere. Sharks with frick'n laser beams attached to their heads! And yet, my car has a CD player?? The HD is a nice idea, but does anyone take the time to load songs into these things?? I did it once in my GL and talk about a PITA!

If it DIDN'T have a 6" vaginal slit, everybody would complain about how an $80k car doesn't have a CD/DVD player. BMW can't win for losing! |

I should start by saying that I don't care much for CDs. The most recent CD that I have in my possession was a gift for a donation that I made to a local independent radio station. I don't think it's available as digital. The one before that is the new Eminem CD, which Amazon was selling, with an instant digital download, for less money than digital copy. (How does that make sense?) If anybody wants to buy an unopened copy of Eminem's MM2, PM me. Prior to that... I don't remember.
That said, CDs sound a whole lot better than MP3s and a whole, whole lot better than streaming BT. If you checked the HK box, presumably you care a little about sound quality (or maybe just loudness). If you care about sound quality then maybe you prefer to listen to CDs. [rant]While we're on the topic of Jobs/Apple... I think it's funny that Jobs was a pioneer of the digital music movement, which largely degraded the quality of the music that we listen to. And then, years later, Cook/Apple spend three BILLION dollars on the purchase of beats audio. This so that you can have great(?) headphones through which to listen to your poor quality audio files.[/rant] Last edited by rubber_ducky; 06-24-2014 at 07:49 AM.. |
