335 Private Plate value
Hi guys,
Bit of a random one, hopefully this is the right section to post. I know a guy who has just bought a 335 and is able to buy the plate BMW 335S as well as the car. I was just wondering what you guys think of the plate, and potential value? Many Thanks, Tom |

Value of plates usually goes on words/meanings or the less characters the more value so I would say that 335S must be worth at least 1k if not more, however I am no expert.

It's not an easy sale for sure because anyone willing to pay a good price on a plate will want to take it onto their next car. A plate like that however stays with the car upon sale. I wouldn't say it was a crap plate I would have it but as its not a plate personal to me that I can keep forever I wouldn't be prepared to pay much for it. I'm sure the guy selling the car is also all too aware of this fact so your friend should be able to arrange a good deal for a few hundred quid.

Personally I wouldn't even want it. I think plates that show the car designation are a bit naff. A personalised plate that means something to you is a bit different though and some can look nice.

I agree that plates which are specific to the car are pretty pointless really, especially those which are still 7 digits.
If you can afford to buy a plate specific to your car then chances are you can afford to buy a much nicer plate which is more personal to you.

Good money
Paying good money....err any money for a freaking number plate is something I've never understood.
For a start (at least in my mind) it says "I've got more money than sense", in some cases a lot more money. It also has an air of neediness about it...."hey look at me....pleez". A number plate delivers absolutely no value whatsoever beyond its core function of identifying the vehicle and is (again IMO) a complete waste of time of money. If you've got so much money you want to throw some away, give it to charity, treat yourself to a nice long weekend, or holiday in the Caribbean (judging by some of the utterly ridiculous prices I've seen)....indeed anything useful. For me, personalized number plates underline the fundamental truth in the expression 'a fool and his money are easily parted' Last edited by SteveC; 10-03-2014 at 12:44 AM.. |
