Tire pressure

The dealership or VPC, not sure which one, set my tire pressure at 28/35. However, I see the recommended tire pressure on the side of the door says 32/38.

The front tires look a little under inflated when I asked my GF to test drive it. Is it because it's summer the pressure should be lowered to compensate for the high temp? or should I stick to the factory recommendation and add some air?

This may sound slightly cynical, but the tire pressure may not have even been adjusted after arriving. Mine was low as well. I set it at the recco'd and its been great. They can loose a pound or so after some weeks--depending on the wheel config--so set it correctly, drive it, and then re-check once a month. Lower inflation is hard on tire wear.

tire pressure depends on weather and cold and hot tire.

so the recommended pressure settings are for warm tires?

edit: According to TireRack, the tire pressure recommended in your vehicle's owner's manual or tire information placard is the vehicle's recommended cold tire inflation pressure.

The pressures on the door jamb are for when the tires are cold.

When I picked up the car I had one of the front tires reading 53 psi (!!), 2 reading 43psi and 1 reading 38psi when hot.

That's right I was thinking back to having so much trouble in the winter with my TPMS and having to warm them up. For lack of a better term there's frigid (ie winter), cold and warm.

Are the tire pressure reading in vehicle status accurate and do they adjust real time while you are driving? That would be awesome for track days!

Just out of curiosity. What does the stem cap say on your car? If you're not aware of why people would fill their tires with pure n2, go google it.

I use a mixture of 78% nitrogen, 20% oxygen and some other trace gases. Has been working real well for me for over 45 years

Do the cars come from the factory nitrogen filled?

Do you think gas station or garage air-compressors contain too much moisture?
Does that moisture corrode tire pressure transmitters or interior wheel metal, I think TireRack said even tire wound steel belts can corrode frm moisture.

I think they came with just air.... the advantage is that N2 has bigger molecules so it's harder for them to escape or leak....

imagine like filling it with golf balls against tennis balls... difference is just about 0.3 times so not really huge....

That mixture has been working well for me for over 29 years. But it's always fun to try new things. Unless you're set in your ways.

Yup. Doesn't leak as fast which sounds nice to me.

They probably didn't. Ha. I have no idea though. Thought it would be nice to try it out. I'm sure the air from gas stations is just fine though

Nitrogen in tires are a waste of money. The difference is so small that it does not warrant the cost or the inconvenience of refilling.
Yeah yeah yeah it's supposed to keep the air pressure more stable than air. There have been multiple tests out there to prove both sides so not worth it in my opinion.
