Disctint hissing sound after FMIC and DP install

So... Just had the VRSF DP and FMIC install today, everything went pretty smoothly and all the parts have pretty good fitment. Car is now running stronger than ever.

Do notice a noticeable hissing sound from the engine bay after the boost reaches above 12-13 psi (have the JB4 on map5 at the moment), which is very audible with the windows all closed (less so w/ windows down, exhaust sound drowns out everything). Check the FMIC hose, everything seems to be tight, and car is boosting with no problem at all. What could this be? Definitely didn't have this sound before the install...

No log yet, since there is just too much traffic. Will do some pull later this evening.

totally normal, comes from the downpipes for the most part (but some from the ic as well)

I should say, a throaty noise. If you think something's leaking air but boost is ok, check your dp connections

I can definitely hear the turbo noise, the volume of which corresponds to rpm and boost. But this hissing sound is either there or not there, and only comes up after the boost reaches above 12 psi.

A little hard to check the DP connection since the best thing I have is a pair of rhinoramp to life the car up... Will log tonight to see if the engine is running as it should.

Anyone else has this boost pressure related noise?

hmm... stock chargepipe? maybe it's leaky diverter valves. They weren't meant for 12 psi and they fail under stock boost...

Yep, stock CP and stock DV... The car was running ok and silent in map 1 (13.5psi) and map 5 during the winter (was running 15psi when it was cold out there and a bit of e85)...

Check your logs once you have a chance. A bit more turbo noise is more common though. If you're not throwing any codes it's probably nothing

alright, log the car in map 1, 2, and 5. All the logs are on my profile: http://datazap.me/u/cloud9blue

Everything looks good to my eyes... but would appreciate more trained eyes to take a look. car pulls and pulls and pulls in map 5, but it does feel a little more laggy at lower rpm range (sub 3000). it does take a bit more time to reach full boost than I recall with stock parts.

Could be a leak, you shouldn't feel a difference in spool between the OEM and 7".

It definitely sounds like it is coming from the driver side engine bay through the steering column. Does leaky charge pipe or diverted valves cause any sound to be like this? Double check my graph, the duty cycle and everything all looks pretty good.

At 2:41 I hear a sound but it sounded like a beep not hissing, seemed kinda loud. It could just be bad microphone while recording. Is that what you're talking abut? It stopped at 2:44.

Stock CP?

That's a boost leak all day. It's either intercooler connections or at charge pipe.

Typically with an aftermarket intercooler it's at the clamps that need to be tightened. It's a very small leak so it may not trigger 30FF but that high pitched squeal is a boost leak, 100% sure.

As a side note I had to turn off the bass completely on my speakers to hear it but I know that sound from experience.

yep, that's it, ignore the rattling noise, that's just the phone vibrating against the trim when the car is going over bumps. clicking noise is from the paddle shifter. I suppose the the actual sound sounds more like high pitched humming noise than a hiss.

FYI, I am on stock everything except FMIC and DP, but had no problem with it before when engine ran at 15 psi. will probably upgrade the cp soon though...

guess i will have to take off the undertray and tighten all the clamps, not exactly the easiest job to do on jack stand.

It sounds like it could be just the DV's not being able to hold all the boost just cause its so loud and where it seems to sound like its coming from. Idk how a DP leak would sound but I'd think you'd barely hear it from down there if at all. Or you'd have a big performance loss. Either way good to double check everything. Let us know what you find out pls.

It might not just be the clamps tightness but their position as well. You have to place the clamp directly before the bead. If you place the clamp on top of the bead you won't have a great seal

phew, so glad it was just a loose FMIC clamp.

All of them were already pretty tight when the shop installed them, but I gave them a few more turns on the clamp, which totally solved the problem. Boost seems to come on a little faster than before too. No more of that damn whistling noise.

Sweet, thx for the follow up. My friend suggested I change my hose clamps to tbolt clamps. That they'll hold better /shrug. Might do that . My CP hose clamp came loose the other day.

np, just surprised a leak can be this loud. guess it must be tiny for it be loud enough to be heard through the engine bay and firewall.
