Should I change my thermostat?

In the process of doing my water pump right now and I noticed the thermostat that is in the car right now is aluminum vs. the new oem plastic thermostat I got at the dealership.

Not sure why BMW went from alum tstat to plastic. Does the matetial of the tstat housing matter?

Hot coolant and plastic tstat housing doesnt sound good to me.

What do you guys think? Is there a reason why bmw switch to plastic? Does it matter what material its made out of?

Im probably just gonna change it.

Anyone have any tips on removing the plastic tube connecting to the tstat? I have removed 1 clip from it and all other hose connecting to tstat housing.

I would do both while your under there. plastic heatsinks almost the same as aluminum its just a slightly different design. they dont sell the old one anymore for good reason probably

Do you have any tips how to remove the plastic elbow from the tstat housing?

I had changed water pump because out of order..
And yes new termostat is on plastic instead of older in aluminium...
On youtube there is 2 video which explain tuto

I got everything unhook and wp removed but the plastic elbow connecting to tstat wont budge. I removed the clip on it, try wiggling it with no luck.

The diy and youtube video doesnt show how to removed the plastic elbow once the clip us removed

You just have to muscle it out. Try using a small pry-bar to help

This. Mine was pretty frozen on and took quite a bit of wiggling and force to break loose. Just keep at it and you'll be golden. I would avoid prying on it for fear of cracking the fitting but i may just be paranoid.

Spray some wd40 into the connection and where the clip sat and let it soak. Then remove the clip completely off of the pipe, be careful it does not go flying and don't lose it. Then try to wiggle for a while. If that doesn't work, spray more wd40, grab a flat head screwdriver and ever so gently begin prying all around the connection. Then pull, wiggle, and repeat prying until it breaks free. Don't pry too hard or you'll break it.
