Would like to hear your opinions on move to M4 from RS5

In January I traded my 09 e92 M3 for 2013 RS5... The trade was mainly done because:

I was bored with the M3.
The car was depreciating and I felt like it may depreciate even more with new M3/M4.
Wanted something different and thought Rs5 was pretty sweet after test driving one locally.

Pretty much after I got it, I felt like I made a mistake. S-Tronic is very, very boring. Even in manual mode, it's just blah. It's one of the reasons I got bored with my e92 M3 too. I need a manual!

I was trying to work out a deal with a local dealer on trading my rs5 and ordering new M4 with the specs that I want. The MSRP on the M4 is 74,9K.
It would be pretty much my car and 14K.

It's about 6K less than I was hoping I'd get for the RS5. However, the more I keep it, the more I realize it's not a car for me. I like modding cars and doing little things to it every once I a while... There's nothing to do on an RS5. It already has everything you want for a "normal" person. HA!

So the question is... is it worth it? The differences on the paper aren't that big, but I just felt great driving the M4... It's just more of a ME car. I don't know... Maybe if I had a different hobby other than cars, I'd be fine with keeping the RS5, HA!

Lay it on me guys.

Thanks.

p.s. Here's my build... I removed USB thingy after realizing it can be coded, Plus, for once, I'd like to get a different color than Black. Every car I owned was Black.

I was in a very similar situation to you with my E92. Spent 3 weeks test-driving everything I could think of, but ended going with the M4, and really couldn’t be happier.

Have you thought about Mineral White? You should really see it in person, WOW.

The M Adaptive Suspension is a must have imo; really wish I had it.

I thought the Side/Top Cameras were going to be a waste, but they’ve come in quite handy in blind driveway and tight parking spot areas.

That 14k is a big ouch though.

I saw Mineral White and felt that Alpine was more Whiter... I kind of liked it more with the CF roof.

Yeah 14K is too much... I was hoping to be 10K difference... the only way that would work is if I do ED, but then I have to pay for the plane ticket, hotel, travel expenses... I'd end up being at the same spot.

$14K is way too much. Have you checked the current prices on your RS5? What options do you have on your RS5? Mileage?

FD,
If you are having doubts of the new M4 and you are on the edge of replacing your RS5, why don't you wait a bit more. I thought the B9 Rs5 quoted to have TT technology and at least 480 hp coming out next year. IS that something to consider?

Honestly, I don't want audi anymore. It's just a personal preference. I have more fun with my bmw's that I had.

As far as info on my rs5 it's in the signature... I also have autotrader ad going. I'm asking 66,9 for it. Nada has it listed at 69k. Then again dealers will offer 60k.

Looking at most of the dynos posted on here recently the M3/4 looks like it's putting out much more power than the claimed 430hp , probably not far off 480hp......

I think at this point, if you don't like the RS5 it's going to get any better.

If I were you, I'd skip the 19s and pocket that money. I remember your E92, and it was modded with wheels too. I can only assume you'd go aftermarket wheels too no?

Yes... Eventually. But I really like those black wheels on white. I was able to sell my stockers for top dollar back then... I'm sure I won't have trouble selling these too.

14k is a lot of money... But they let me keep my car until the m4 is built which looks like September probably. The love/hate relationship between me and audi is not gonna end. I like the looks for an rs5 but I prefer m4.

I'm losing 5k on this deal any way I look at it... Unless I keep the rs5 for a year or two and then look for m4. That would be long as wait haha

I went e92 M to S4 (+S2000) to RS5 and now have an order for a M4 being shipped. So similar story except I have no problem with DCT or Stronic, PDK etc. For me the ONLY reasons I might jump to M4 from the RS5 (or get it along with the RS5) are:

1] want full leather dash
2] want red/orange leather
3] miss rwd the slighest bit (though I also like AWD sometimes)

You mentioned mods. Mods definitely make you more attached to a car. What mods have you done to the RS5? I heard no mention of exhaust ( a must), stainless brake lines, lightweight wheels, spacers?

IMO trading in a RS5 completely defeats the point of buying the RS5. You have to do a private party sale if you want the most value from it being a limited production. Though as Audi is doing a 2015 run you probably won't see the most value for the RS5 until the new supply is sold and B9 comes out which will likely go turbo meaning that you'll have one of the last stellar NA V8s on the market.

Just some things to consider.

I test drove RS5 also and pretty much felt the same way you did. The only difference is I didn't buy although I had every intention to do so.

Good points. Honestly, I didn't feel like spending 5k on capristo exhaust when deep down I know I won't keep the car for long. I don't track it so see no needs for brake lines etc. Spacers I put in and lowered it the first week I owned... Along with some coding. It's all in my signature if interested.

I believe I've come to an agreement with a sales guy so I'm gonna do it. I get to keep my car until the m4 is built... Which could be pushed, who knows... And I pay 14k. If I sell an rs5 by then, they'll take 2k off msrp.

So I think it's a good deal for me as I really don't enjoy having an rs5.

Sounds like a good plan. I won't try to talk you out of it. I just wonder if you're going to get bored of the M4 as well which it being a first year production run will depreciate considerably..maybe since it's manual things will be different.

The only thing I'll add is that when I first got the S4 I was REALLY bored. I'd curse to myself how much I didn't like it. Then I got intake, brakes and most importantly lightweight wheels. From that point on the car felt more nimble, more communicative and sounded better and I became absolutely enamored with it. As I begun to explore the limits of the car I realized that it got better the harder I drove it. To really enjoy the car you have to drive it HARD...and it will reward and amaze you with what it can do. Just my experience.

Since you have the RS, you know how it is... You can push it and all, it sounds great... But it's a whale... If it was a manual, and had a community like a BMW, plus performance upgrades like BMW, I honestly wouldn't see a reason to jump ship.

Any way I look at it, the rs5 was just a bridge for me between e92 m3 and m4. It was going to happen sooner or later... Might as well get it sooner.

I placed the order, gave them my deposit... Now it's the waiting game. Who knows, maybe it'll get pushed to the next year at which point I'll still get the same amount for rs5... Unless I sell it first ;-)

I disagree, I don't feel it's a sporty enough color for this car. It's too soft.

It didn't feel white enough to me. I think alpine is perfect. Cf roof, front grilles and it'll look sweet!

I wish I could see SO in person... Maybe I'd get that.

Any of you guys regret not getting the side assist and all that mumbo jumbo?

you can save on the adaptive and swap for coils (save money in the long run albeit not much for a modding guy), the 19's, and the camera. i would say skip the upgraded audio but it might have better active sound

Granted, the M3/4 are more of a true sports cars compared to the Audi's including RS series(have driven them and wasn't too impressed but I had high expectations)...RS's don't feel as fast as their HP ratings for some reason...but I will say this, I have had all versions of M3's and although the e92 M3 is supposed to be faster than a S4, to me, the S4 feels faster for some reason.

The S4 is the best daily driver I have ever owned(and I thought the 335D M sport was a great dd)...so easy to go fast and handles well too after lowering it... at first I was bothered by the bulk/weight of the S4 but now I am used to it.

To me the M3/4 niche is abit odd, cause its not a true super car type of sportscar(i.e.-garage queen), but its not a great dd either...maybe now it is a good dd with F80(IDK cause I have never driven the new M3's), but the e92 was not cause it got such bad gas mileage and I was tired of going to gas station 2-3 times a week...and M3 was loud so you didn't want to rev it too high for normal driving...the S4 just begs to be driven hard....normal, spirited it doesn't matter.

The RS5 is so such more rare than the M3 will be...tough call...for me, if I want a garage queen semi-supercar that flat out performs, I am now leaning away from the M3/4...I am now thinking GTR, Gallardo or F430.

I like little gadgets and buttons... so that's why i went for these

I was on the edge about the full leather and USB/bluetooth thingy... but then Saw full leather at the dealer and figured it wasn't really worth it the 2900 for me. The USB/Bluetooth option can be coded so that's not needed either.

The other thing i was curios about was the side assist package and all that... I didn't get it, but not sure if i should. It's kind of pointless imo.
