Intake temps...

Hey guys over the last little will I'll noticed my intake temps rising quickly on WOT. I'm running a FBO setup with a pro tune and 94 octane. The ambient temperature outside is usually around 80-85 and my temps rise pretty quick to 145F or more if I keep my foot in it. Could this be cause by hot air getting in through the charge pipe even if theres a slight leak? Running a VRSF 5'' intercooler.

Post a log i'd be curious to see the delta on a graph. 145 is getting up there but it's hot out, and a 5" core can only exchange so much heat before it's no longer efficient.

Sounds pretty normal to me.

When really pushing it on road race courses, I've seen rise as much as 75-80 degrees F over ambient.

Like Mdorphin says depends how long you're running WOT for. I think you're getting hot air through a leak though just my .02 cents. My CP did the same thing and it'd quickly hit 145/150, the hose clamp was just loose enough to let some air in. I dont track. When everything is normal during WOT i barely hit 115 and im in AZ where ambient temp is about 95-100 depending (cobb 5" fmic).

Temps can be seen here: Graph Temps

highest on that pull was 110 but it was 95 out at night if that matters and it's like 10 second pull 3rd to 4th gear. Good luck.

It's all relative so can't really say what's normal. Too many contributing factors:

ambient temperature?
humidity?
rpms?
fmic upgrade?

Best not to worry much about cruising unless you're having major issues. Test your temps in a datalog during a WOT 3rd 4th gear pull and see how it holds up under those loads.

Hey guys...ya the WOT pulls haven't been long...maybe 5-7 seconds and there past 145, when I'm cruising temps are about 8-10 above ambient temperature...so there must be a leak somewhere. And yes meth is coming soon! Would I get an engine light if it was leaking? I'll check the CP...prob due for an upgrade.

Maybe get a CEL, maybe not. My temps were so bad I had misfires on the cobb stg 2 fmic+ sport map. Yeah check your CP and the clamps. GL, let us know if you find anything.

Hey guys so took out my stock charge pipe last night. Nothing seems to be wrong, no cracks or anything I can see. Just find it a little odd. And over the last month or so my 0-60 and 60ft times have decrease. Have always been running a 4-4.1 0-60 and now its like 4.5-4.6. Any reason or any idea why this is happening?

Rising ambient temps...if it's 90 degrees out a boosted motor is not going to run as well as when it's 70 degrees out. Period.

But could also be any number of other factors.

That seems like it goes up way too fast in temperature. Yesterday in 90 degree heat I was monitoring mine a lot out of curiosity, and even on WOT pulls from 2-5 gear consecutively it would go up maybe 10-15 degrees to around 110. I couldn't imagine 145. Even when I was in complete stop and go it was only at 130 after 20 minutes of sitting. Hitting 145 just seems like insanity.

What?

1: You're not letting hot air in through a loose hose clamp on your charge pipe. It's a pressurized system (boost) so if you have a leak, you'll let hot air out of the system. Your turbos will then have to work harder, which will mean hotter temps, but certainly not because they're letting hot air in.

2: You are not driving in Arizona, doing a 3-4 pull and only seeing 115* temps when the ambient is 95-100. Are you sure you're looking at the right values? You'd be lucky on a 100* day to see 112-115* charge temps just driving around off boost, once the engine is warm and you've stopped at a couple of lights. Unless maybe you're running 8 psi, or all sorts of spraying water/meth.

I see what you mean on #1, that was my misunderstanding of what caused the higher temps. As for #2, I don't really have a way to check temps other than what the gauge cluster thermo tells me it is at any given time so that's what I use for my comparison. Sorry, I'm not trying to be misleading but that graph is basically from 1am so take that for what its worth.

Could it be that my 5'' vrsf intercooler isn't enough? Heatsoak?

No reason to guess, do a datalog with your intake air temps and you'll have your answer.

Your original post says you saw 145, do you have that datalog?

Here is my log. 2800 to 6200 rpm in 3rd gear then shifted into 4th. It was 85 outside when I did the pull after work today. Intake temps got pretty high. Something must be off here….

Damn! 158F Charge air temp! The highest I ever saw with my Cobb was 135F - idling in 100F heat...
I'm usually 15-25F over ambient once warmed up (not heat soaked). I don't think I ever heat soaked my Helix FMIC, actually.
