XI Limitations

I haven't paid much attention since i didn't own a XI but who has the most powerful XI? I know there is a ST out there somewhere. What are the weak points of them? Anyone ever blow transfer cases, front axles, etc? Thank you

Not sure who has the strongest. I know at least one guy with vargas twins putting down ~580 hp and one with the FFTEC single putting down similar numbers.

I believe the general consensus is everything is ok as long as you don't do a lot of launches. There are a few stories out there about blown t cases but mostly it is the gear on the clutch motor that gets worn out over time. This is easy to replace.

A few guys have had to have their front diffs replaced but not due to power. Just normal BMW failures.

Most guys with xi's worry about the transmission more, particularly those with the 6AT.

Hmm interesting. I wonder if anyone has pulled front axles out to run just rwd. I'll have to look into the system. I really miss awd but I really don't miss the cost of fixing one.

FBO, meth, e85, stock turbo XI here with about 125 drag strip launches cutting from about 1.63-1.80 60s. No problems with transfer case or any differentials. Nothing xi related have I had issues with, just typical 335 problems. Car has about 87k miles on it now with stock turbos. Best time is 11.89 at 118.4mph at Pittsburgh Raceway Park.

People have been pulling fuses for the transfer case to make it rwd only. Problem with that is your wipers stay on, I've never done it and don't plan on it. I know people were trying to find a tuning solution to make the car rwd only.

It's on my todo list to figure out what kind of signal actuates the clutch. Unfortunately been rather busy. How is the car search going?

Is that some sick German humor to keep the wipers going when RWD?

It's not just wipers, Milage isn't recorded and a few other things. It lights the dash right up with idiot lights.

It's not going the greatest. I'm a little to picky and I can find some good xi's but I want it to play nice with the ST. I don't want to invest $7k+ like my other car strengthen a system I can do with out
