Billet vargas turbos.

Had anyone used the billet wheels? Was it worth it?
I should get the car back Friday.

Yes the car is for sell.

Make sure you check for oil leaks or any abnormal sounds after the install. My first set had an oil leak from the rear turbo. The replacement rear turbo made some howling sound. There is no way you can check for either until the turbo is in. Hope it goes well for you, at least better than it did for me.

I personally would stay far away from any of the VVT products...

Why do you keep calling them VVT? It's VTT, Vargas turbo technologies.

curious what leads you to saying this? I have known two people who ACTUALLY owned both RB and Vargas turbos and BOTH hands down liked Vargas more. One guy on this forum owns a 2011 Alpina with VTTs and a 2010 Alpina with RBs and drives autobahn all the time and says VTT hands down. So im just wondering if this is just the coke vs pepsi debate that will never end or if there is something that causes you to say this. I am about to buy VTTs so let me know.

- reliability of the VTT N54 turbos. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=15847415 (scan through the whole thread, it's a widespread failure rather than just isolated cases)

- poor customer service and business practices http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25848 (I personally would not be comfortable with spending thousands of dollars if this is the person running the company.)

- company's track record of offering underperforming products and misleading/ambiguous specifications in the last two years (upgraded HPFP that didn't do anything, turbo failures, unwilling to disclose information on the specs of the "upgraded components", etc.)

The price difference between RB and VTT turbos are minimal, and given that these things are pita to install yourself or cost close $1000 for a shop to do the job right, I would go with something that has been proven.

This post is not to bash RB or Vargas. I already bought the turbo's a month ago and there getting put on the car as I type.

Both companies have had issues with turbo's.
there's not a 100% perfect set up out there, BMW themselves have had turbo's failure's.
I went to vargas because of the billet wheels.

I totally with the fact that both companies have problems. There have been quite a few failures with the RB at its earlier days too, turbos are pretty delicate stuff and so many things have to run right for it to last.

But there is a huge difference is how each company deal with issue and its customers. VTT's stuff sure looks good on the paper, but I am not sure I want to deal with someone as unprofessional as... if thing does go south.

RB failure rates are nowhere close to VTT rates. Not even speaking about customer service...

The Vargas question generates so much negativity that it's hard to get any subjective advice; for example, you simply asked about the billet wheels and you already bought the turbos yet you were getting responses to stay clear from Vargas.

I've been following the various threads that pop up about them and the same group comes on to do battle, both for and against. Each side may have their merits and valid arguments; there certainly have been some terrible experiences. But there is so much finger pointing, and certainly skewed descriptions of events and follow-up that it's hard to know what the real truth is.

I think because some perceive the company owner to be blatantly disrespectful, even so far as to imply he's deceitful, amplifies the seriousness of failures reported on these forums and the subsequent vociferous complaints.

I try to keep an open mind and continue to evaluate both RB's and VTTS2's in consideration for my own turbo replacement.

Although my post adds nothing to the OP's search for answers (yes, more noise in the long-running debate), I am interested in how the optional upgraded "wheels" perform...

WELL still i will say that i know two people who have actually owned cars with both and BOTH of them say the VTT Stage 2s with the billet wheels are amazing.

Agree with this, need some long term data and reliability report on these things. It is great when these things work as intended, but when it doesn't, I would much rather deal with RB than VTT.
