After carbon fix, did it come back? Need help before pulling the trigger on a gasser

2011 335d currently has 49k miles, purchased with 5k miles CPO. I have the extended warranty to 100k.

I jsut got my car back after 5 weeks of repair. They did the walnut blast, DDE and a few other things. Car is great again, MPG is way up (38mpg so far this tank).

all the issues started around 40k miles. Has anyone had the cleaning done and put another 40k miles on their car? Wondering if this is a permanent fix or if this same issue will arise in another 40k miles. thinking of trading it in on a F30 328 after this trip to the shop. Also concerned that MN is going to 5-20% bio diesel which BMW has not approved to be run in these engines.

Thanks

It will come back at some point unless you take preventative measures to ensure that it doesn't.

That is my problem with this car, I don't want to void the warranty by adding EGR block, etc. Sucks, this car is so much fun to drive.

I have a year warranty left and can't wait to do all the required deletes.

Thing is, deleting EGR, SCR, DPF and DEF along with a tune and custom exhaust will make the 335d very bad ass.

Any thoughts on whether BMW will warranty these diesels if we run more than 5% bio? That is all that is available now in MN and I heard IL is the same. Current paperwork shows 5% max or you void your warranty for BMW. MB and VW have made public statements that they will cover existing warranties if you run up to 20%.

They must warranty. Don't worry about it.

You can always remove the blocks before service/warranty work and reset the SES.

Yep. They aren't difficult after you do it once.
In my 335i's it took 90 minutes to install a JB4 the first time. By the end it took 12-14 minutes and I was done. The EGR is right on the front of the motor and typically with things like that you get good at it and know the tools and headaches (and how to avoid them). Well under an hour with a few times to get the rhythm- that's my guess.

Similar to the gasser model, walnut blasting will always be a preventive maintenance measure every 40-50k miles. No way around it. The emissions system delete along with a meth kit will slow it down but no one's had their car long enough to prove that it can completely remove CBU.

I have almost the exact same car, purchased as a service loaner with 8K miles. The big difference is while I am also at 49K miles, I have yet to see the SES light. Only warranty item so far was the A/C belt, that's it! We will never know what ALL the parameters are that cause CBU, but hope I'm not driving a grenade with the pin already out.

MPG is down a bit but think that always happens in the summer with the A/C load.

With all the trouble with the latest engine technology (and direct injection) our next car may have an electric motor instead of an engine.

I ran a tank of B20 through mine because I had a teaspoon of fuel left in the tank during a trip and didn't have a choice. It was all there was at the station.

Seems like the car ran quieter than usual... like it was a good thing.

My warranty is terminated anyway because of high mileage, and I wouldn't have any hesitation on using B20 frequently. I assume it has better lubricity so I could be less of an additive whore. I just don't trust BMWNA for recommending ULSD without a lubricity agent, so they don't have any credibility with me on the anti-bio stance.

I wouldn't run B100 tho

Considering the fact that there are many 335d at 80K milesand more (including mine) that have never had any symptoms of CBU, your statement is obviously incorrect and exaggerated. Please cut the hyperbole.

There is a guy in the Toronto area with 230,000+ kms on the car. It was throwing all sorts of CBU codes but considering the mileage not bad.

Eventually you'll have to deal with CBU though right? So why not take the preventive measures to avoid jacking up your pricey injectors? Don't want to be a Debbie Downer here but it'll happen to you and the others with high mileage who haven't experienced it sooner or later. Unless you're treating your car with some magical pixie dust we don't know about, please let us know how the insides of your car looks like right now.
