Agreed...I really like that little car. I'll be interested to see the improvements & refinements made in the next gen car (in 6-7 yrs?).

I originally had wanted this, before I even thought about the Cayman GTS or the M4. But I had been following the car for literally two years, and thought I was going to get into one this year, and I was proven wrong again. So after so many disappointments, and for the dealer mark up they are going to have when they first get here, I'd much rather be in the M4, which is a seriously fast car, that has a great price point and matainence program.

That being said, I will definitely give this car another look when it's got a little more power and many refinements. I love Alfa, and love the way the car looks.

What's interesting is that I've spent a bunch of time defending the DCT - and I probably wouldn't get an M4 without one - but for this car ...

I'm not sure if it's because an Alpha Spider Duetto has been one of my dream cars, but I can't see getting a dual-clutch Alpha. I think I'd have to have it MT so the fact that this car is DC might throw me off ... I'd have to drive it.

Speaking of the the Spider:

Also, here's a little Spider porn:

I love this car. From the design, to the carbon chassis and the idea it represents. I'd def buy one.... for my girlfriend.

Great exterior design BUT did you see the review on Top Gear? Apparently the interior couldn't be made of a cheaper plastic. Not sure I could buy a European Miata. Please don't call TROLL on me.

for the built quality, this car shouldve been around 45k w/o mark up. yea carbon tub is usually for exotics, but you just know this car will get all sorts of minor/major problems sooner or later. only wish lotus would bring back their exige line again..

100% agree. I like this more than the Lotus because it's italian and I like the idea of Italian sports cars being relevant without costing your left lung, but they are trying to get 85-90K for Launch editions. Meanwhile, the base model starts at 55 and that is with absolutely zero options. So to get it to even resemble the cars they have been adverting, it has to be around a 63-65K build.

That, to me, ruins the idea of this car. Because it's not faster than a Cayman S or the beloved M4, in fact, it's not even in the same league. It should be as you said, a 45K car, that with options goes up to 53-55 pending on how much you load it with. That way it has a niche to appeal to. But Alfa's marketing and overall strategy with this car has been such a joke that I get myself in a tizzy about it constantly.

They are lovely little cars and it is great that they are (finally) returning to North America.

If not for the kids, it might be hard to choose between this and Cayman.

(Cayman probably a better car, but this is oooooh so pretty...)

Yeah. The pricing is annoying. What makes this car so fantastic is that it is a italian car with all the right curves without the exotic price tag. However, as the price goes up it starts competing with very legitimate sports cars. The value prop goes out the door and it becomes a question of buying the car mainly for the design.

Which, in reality, many people will do. The car will sell out no problem. It just won't be as accessible as it was originally advertised.

Alpha seems like a great brand with corporate troubles and not a lot of experience in slinging product to a North American customer ... despite the fact the parent company (Fiat and Chrysler) own lots of brands sold in the US. Maserati is another example.

Personally I'm rooting for them, but they'll need to invest in figuring out how to sell to the US market - I'm willing to cut them some slack while they figure it out ... Fiat seems to be off to a good start ...

I'm rooting for them, too. Alpha has a great heritage and the perception that italian imperfections make the car more interesting will let them get away with some things.

But competition is heating up. It's a good time to be buying a sports car. If they can't deliver a compelling product at the right price, it will be a niche product that sells out, stops production and then shows up at cars and coffee once in awhile. It won't be a real contender.

Maybe in the end, that's what alpha wants. An exciting, imperfect, rare car. Something to get people excited about the brand so it can start selling econoboxes like an italian miata or civic.

What do I want? (not that alpha cares). This version of the 4c with a manual tranny @ $45-55k and then a higher power Turbo6 @ $70-80. The base model will be desirable just for the design and rawness. The higher end model will actually be able to compete with big name sports cars.

I've owned two brand new Alfas and unfortunately the design and romantic idea of an Alfa does not make up for their horrific reliability. Constantly rated the most unreliable cars in customer surveys here in Europe. Both of my brand new cars had serious faults that never got fixed and spent so much time at the dealers it just got annoying to the point that when I sold my last one I swore I would never buy another Alfa again. 4c or Cayman? Easy choice. Great design as always but no thanks.

This was on my short list also as it reminded me of a compact 2-seater Evora. But, almost every review I read had the same storyline - great idea, poor implementation.

Like others have said, would be awesome at $40K or so, but they need to work on handling and power before I'll plunk down $70K. Do that and offer Euro delivery in Modena....
